The Forest Beyond the Earth
Matthew S. Cox
Publication date: February 6th 2018
Genres: Post-Apocalyptic, Young Adult

Under the watchful eye of the Mother Shrine, twelve-year-old Wisp ekes out a simple, but challenging life with Dad, foraging for food and losing herself in old books from the world that came before. She loves the Endless Forest ― except when the Tree Walkers come for her.

In ages past, the great rain of fire and ash destroyed the Earth, wiping out the ancients and everything they had made. Nature has reclaimed much since then, spreading out in a vast forest full of wonder and dread. Ever in fear of being taken away, she follows Dad’s rules without question while learning to survive off the land.

No longer a small child, she accompanies Dad on one of his treks, her first time more than a few steps away from the cabin. A day exploring with him is the happiest time of her life, but joy is short-lived.

A monster follows them home.

Safe in her Haven, she hides while Dad goes outside to confront the beast. She wakes alone the next morning, and waits. Alas, her hope of his return fades with the daylight. Desperate, she breaks his strictest rule and goes outside alone. Not far from the cabin, she discovers his rifle abandoned next to the monster’s strange footprints.

Afraid but determined, Wisp sets off on her own into the Endless Forest to find Dad ― before the Tree Walkers catch her.

REVIEW:

This is a YA Post-Apocalyptic novel that follows a young girl called Wisp, who is kept hidden away from the outside world other than the surrounding lands nearest her Haven which are known as the Endless Forest. Now that Wisp is twelve, she can have some extra freedom. But when that does happen, and a scary monster follows them both back to the Haven. When the sun rises, Wisp discovers that her Dad hasn’t returned. The only way to find him, is to break all of the rules and forget being safe. She has to venture out, and use her Dad’s rifle to defend herself against the so-called Tree Walkers, enemies that could kill her.
This was an adventurous story as Wisp has to survive on her own, luckily the lessons her Dad taught her how to make some difficult decisions throughout the novel, as she tries desperately to find her Dad. The ending of the novel was what shocked me the most as a reader, a plot twist that I didn’t see coming at all. It was a visual journey, with the visual settings my favourite part of the experience. I loved the pictures at the top of the page lent themselves to the charm of the story. This is a written very well as the story unfolds from Wisp’s understanding on what goes on around her. This is very easy to read as it is aimed at YA market, sometime the imagination is so interesting that even adults enjoy it.

Wow what a book, this one had everything you could wish from a time travelling story. This is book two in the Lake Lanier mysteries. Book one is referenced in this one, and some of same group of people are involved.
I have not listened to book one, but I could follow very easily, but because I enjoyed this so much. I have purchased Beneath the Lake and I’m looking forward to listening to it.
Nick Cramer a friend of Lacey and Drew decides to travel back to 2001 9/11 so he can try to save his then girlfriend Carly, Carly died in 9/11 attack. So even though he feels an immense connection to Piper, he wants to set things right before he can move on. So he sets TESS the time travelling device to 7th Sept to set things right.
Those left in the future soon realise somethings are changing and not in a good way. So Piper goes back to try to stop Nick and bring him home.
That’s all about the story that gripped from me from start to finish.
The narration was superb, the voices flowed from character to character so much so I was in the adventure with them. The narrators kept me there, not one breaking the magic. This is 5 stars across the board.
Can’t wait to see what is the next instalment in the Lake Lanier Mysteries

I received this audiobook as part of my participation in a blog tour with Audiobookworm Promotions. The tour is being sponsored by Amy Deuchler. The gifting of this audiobook did not affect my opinion of it.

gold-stargold-stargold-stargold-stargold-star

  1. How did you select your narrator? I compare the search to looking through a ton of oysters to find a pearl. I’m super picky about narrators. I want them to feel the passion and pain in my story and put emphisis where I have it in my mind. The narrator has to fit the tone of the book and know what makes the characters react the way they do. Not an easy task, but I know when I hear the clips.
  2. Were there any real life inspirations behind your writing? All of my writing has a piece of me written between the lines, especially my Lake Lanier Mysteries Series. The first time I heard the eerie lore, strange occurances and supernatural sitings, my muse danced. The tales told me what to write, and the pages flowed like water. Now that I live on the lake, I’m inspired every day.
  3. Are you an audiobook listener? What about the audiobook format appeals to you?  I don’t know what I’d do without audiiobooks. After a long day of sitting at my computer, reading, writing, research, promo, and marketing, my eyes blur. I love to read, but my eyes just say enough is enough. Audiobooks take me into the stories I love, while my eyes rest. I listen in my car, shopping, walking, or sitting on my porch. Anytime I need a break I have my stories. I love audiobooks!
  4. Is there a particular part of this story that you feel is more resonating in the audiobook performance than in the book format? Amy nails the tense moments. She reads with the passion and intensity that those scenes need and makes the words jump off the pages with emotion. People can’t always read what the author feels but a good narrator helps translate those feelings.
  5. If you had the power to time travel, would you use it? If yes, when and where would you go? Obviously, as a romantic suspense time travel author, I love the concept! I would use the power in a heartbeat. I’m not sure what I’d choose as my first destination…and yet, in a sense, I’ve already experienced a time slip with each of my novels. I hope everyone feels that way when they listen to or read my books…after all, that’s the point.
  6. In your opinion, what are the pros and cons of writing a stand-alone novel vs. writing a series? I love a series. They give me a chance to revisit characters and places I already love and, as an author, a series reconnects me to readers who loved my stories. A stand-alone is easier. One and done. In a series, you have to find a way to bring your readers up to speed without dumping too much backstory on them. But a series, to me, is more rewarding. I try to make all of my series stories stand-alone, but I make sure some of the previous characters visit in smaller roles.
  7. What’s your favorite:
    1. Food: Lobster
    2. Song: Everlasting Love
    3. Book: Knight In Shining Armor by Jude Deveraux
    4. Television: show Outlander
    5. Movie: Déjà Vu
    6. Band: Anything Motown
    7. Sports: team Atlanta Braves [pro] Georgia Bulldogs [college]
    8. City: Ashville N.C. or Charleston S.C.
  8. Are any of those things referenced in appearance in your work? I was inspired by Outlander and Déjà Vu but they aren’t refrenced in my writing.
  9. What bits of advice would you give to aspiring authors? Learn from those who have walked the path before you, and never give up on your dreams.
  10. What’s next for you? My current WIP is a romantic political thriller, Reign Of Fire, which is the first in my Deep State Mysteries series, and I’m also working on a new supernatural romance series, Ghosts Of Lake Lanier.

ARC Review: ANOTHER ONE By New York Times Bestselling Author ALEATHA ROMIG @AleathaRomig @InkslingerPR

 ANOTHER ONE ARAnotherOneBookCover6x9_MEDIUM[149105] BC

Get ready to laugh out loud, swoon, and fall in love with this new, fun, and sexy stand-alone novel from New York Times bestselling author Aleatha Romig. Demonstrating her versatility in writing, Aleatha revisits her lighter side that you loved in PLUS ONE.

A complete stand-alone, ANOTHER ONE is the next big summer hit.

*Shana*

Trevor Willis is sexy, sweet, and oh so fun. He’s also my best friend’s brother-in-law. That should mean he’s off-limits, or that I should be off-limits to him.

Someone probably should have told us that before my best friend married his brother, before the morning of the wedding when we woke in each other’s arms with gaping holes in my memory.

They didn’t.

We did.

The hilarious truth behind our crazy, secret adventure secured this handsome, off-limits man in my heart. But alas, life goes on. After our one secret night, we went back to our lives—our hardworking, solitary lives.

And then it happened.

My phone began to buzz. Each night with thousands of miles between us, we laughed, talked, and shared. And then, the phone stopped ringing.

Before it did, I knew one thing…

Our secret one had bloomed and blossomed, and now that our circumstances have changed I want another one!

*Trevor*

Shana Price is that one woman. You know, the one who suddenly makes the world more than a place to work, but also a place to live. Usually shy and awkward, in her presence I want to be more—I am more. I don’t even have to try.

She’s my one. I knew it the moment I first met her. What followed simply confirmed it.

The problem is the little hassle of the thousands of miles between us.

I tried to make it work, but each phone call made it harder. (Yes, that is a pun) I couldn’t take it any more—and she became the one who got away.

Now, everything has changed.

Shana is back in the United States—all I have to do is make her see that her job isn’t the only reason to stay.

That shouldn’t be a problem, right?

From a secret one to another one!

Try Aleatha’s lighter side for a guaranteed smile—the perfect getaway.

Have you been Aleatha’d?

REVIEW:

Aleatha Romig does it again, I really enjoyed this story. This can be read as a standalone, but there is a free prequel called The Secret One which is Trevor and Shana’s meeting at Trevor’s brother Duncan’s wedding to Kimbra Shana’s best friend. It’s a good addition to the story, but events in this book take place over a year later and can be picked up easily.
Shana works for Saks, but is based in London. The chance to run the Lingerie Show for buyers in New York comes up for Shana and her assistant Stephen.
Trevor is now living in New York, and is bowled over when he sees Shana, and all their feelings for each other come back full force, and they spent all their free time together. This is hot and sexy, and they are great together. This is an entertaining love affair between two people, Shana and Trevor. This is another winner for me, as I loved both characters from the start, so it was entertaining to enjoy their journey to their happily ever after.

Trevor~

Sweet and tangy.

Shana Price tastes like sugar with a twist of lemon.

My mind tells me to go slow, reminding me that I don’t have any right to this beautiful woman. My mind is saying to stop, yet her soft moan is all I hear.

My body has its own GPS with the destination close. Listening to my mind is out of the question.

Her petite body shivers as I tease her sweet lips. They willingly part as my tongue delves inside, wrestling with hers.

Not giving up its fight, my thoughts remind me how forward this behavior is and how it isn’t like me. Trevor Willis is not a man who chases a woman down, pins her against the wall, and kisses her until neither of us can breathe or cares.

It’s not me.

But, it should be.

I like it.

I won’t blame the alcohol. I’ll blame my need to know it’s really Shana and to claim her for my own. I didn’t do it last time, and I’ve regretted it every day since.

When her hands come to my chest, I seize them, lifting them above her head and pinning them to the wall. Shana doesn’t fight; instead, her hips move against mine and our kiss grows more passionate. In the dark, crowded hallway, with my body pressed against hers, I swallow the soft moans coming from her throat.

At that moment, I want to be anywhere but a crowded bar in the middle of Manhattan. I no longer care about Eric’s bachelor party or my friends. I don’t even care about Kimbra back out in the bar. All I want is to whisk Shana away and do what we didn’t do before, what her body and mine are ready and aching to do.

REVIEW:

O My God Amo jones has done it again, every book gets better and better. I don’t where to start so much has happened this is action packed from start to finish. We meet so many people in this episode.
We have ghosts from the past pop up when there are not wanted. This is series may be about 18years olds, but this is definitely for adults, non-squeamish as it holds no punches. We get to know Bishop’s mum, and we find out a lot more about Madison’s background. Then right at the end when we think every almost resolved  left with a cliffhanger and now we wait for book four Malum ( Evil ) . This is a series that has me totally addicted, but I must say you must read  book 1-2 or you will be totally lost. I now have to wait, but in the meantime I bought the audiobook of The Sliver Swan. I will be back with a review when I have listened.

Read an Excerpt from MELT FOR YOU

“Remember to breathe,” he whispers.

“Just kiss me already,” I whisper back, surprised by how much it sounds like a plea.

“Your eyes are still open.”

I immediately shut them.

His soft laugh sends a thrill up my spine. “If only you were that obedient all the time, lass.” He lightly nips my lower lip, a dark, delicious little promise.

My hands. What do I do with my hands? They’re flattened against his chest again, but that seems lame, so I slide them up around his neck…and discover his hair. Good lord. Thick, glossy strands of hair slide like silk between my fingers. It’s longer than any of the men’s at the office, much longer than Michael’s, past the collar of his shirt, dark and waving, exquisitely soft.

As his tongue slowly begins to probe my mouth, I tug on all that gorgeous hair, forgetting I’m not supposed to be enjoying this.

I arch against him, softening, expanding, breathing deeply through my nose as the kiss deepens and begins to burn. I wasn’t kidding when I said he was experienced. He knows exactly what to do, how to get my blood sizzling and my heart hammering and all the pornographic images of him nude and splayed out like the best Christmas gift I’ve ever received pulsing like neon signs inside my head.

My nipples tighten. There’s a new heaviness between my legs, but it’s not him, it’s me, flushed and aching, every pull of his lips sending a spike of heat to that hollow space inside me that I’m becoming acutely aware of, its muted little howls of need.

I break away to check in before I lose myself completely and choke him with my prehensile tongue. “How’m I doing?” I mumble, flushed and out of breath.

His eyes drift open. Hot and dark, they pin me in place. “Jury’s still out,” he says, his voice thick. “Need more evidence.”

His mouth. I will drown in the pleasure of his mouth. I’ll die on this sofa and Mrs. Dinwiddle will find my body, fingers and toes chewed on by the poor starving cat.

The kiss grows decadent. Sinful. I moan, a desperate sound rising from the back of my throat. It has an interesting effect on Cam.

His entire body goes stiff.

He takes my head in both hands, breaks the kiss, and turns his face away. He breathes raggedly for a few moments, his nostrils flared and his jaw like granite. With his fingers pressed into my scalp, he says roughly, “You can’t make noises like that.”

Oh God. I sound like a warthog. A donkey. A trained pig, snuffling through the underbrush in search of truffles. “Okay.”

The humiliation in my voice makes his eyes slash to mine. “It’s not bad. It’s just…distracting.”

Distracting?

He slightly shifts his weight, and things are clarified.

I bite my lip so hard I might have drawn blood. My heart is a hummingbird beating frantically against a cage. I whisper, “You said you wouldn’t get aroused.”

He looks at my mouth like a warlord looking over a kingdom he’s just seized. “I lied.”

A kiss again, dangerous, like standing at the edge of a cliff and looking over, shifting dirt and rocks tumbling beneath your feet. My fingers twist in his hair. His hands move my head, left or right, however he wants it, a throbbing pulse like drumbeats in my ears. I’m so turned on I feel frantic, unstable, like I might break out of my own skin.

Caterpillar becoming butterfly. Chrysalis shed, wings outstretched, wind beneath my belly. Caught on an updraft. Beating, beating, flying free.

He breaks the kiss, suddenly, shatteringly, the separation like breaking glass. Dizzy, I whimper at the loss of his mouth.

“Fuck. Joellen. Fuck.”

He’s panting, his voice a desperate rasp. He radiates heat like a furnace. Even his hands on my head are hot, burning right through my skull.

With his scent in my nose and his heat wrapped around me and his heart pounding against mine, I’m somewhere else. I’m someone else. A gypsy, casting spells. A sloe-eyed singer in a smoky jazz club. A femme fatale in a film noir, all knowing smiles and long legs and a throaty voice with an edge like a purr.

“Don’t stop,” I say in my new voice. “You taste so good.”

He stares right at me, his eyes intensely aglow. Tiger eyes. Wolf eyes. The eyes of a predator about to pounce on his meal.

He growls, “You like the way I taste?”

There’s a challenge in the question. Other than his ragged breathing, he’s so still, every muscle tensed.

What’s happening?

I come back to myself abruptly, all at once aware of how far this little experiment has gone, how dangerously close it is to the point of no return, and the cat up on the kitchen table eating the remains of Cam’s dinner from his plate.

Oh shit. My face floods with heat.

I’m not a gypsy. I’m not a femme fatale. I’m an awkward, lonely woman sitting on the lap of the most famous athlete on the planet, making an utter fool of myself.

REVIEW:

Wow I really enjoyed this book, and I have to say I’m in love again this time it is with Cameron. What can I say I’m fickle, but the description of this man is mouthwatering.
When Joellen meet the wild half-dressed Scotsman in the apartment across the hall. I couldn’t stop laughing, the banter between them was priceless. Prancer and Mrs Snufflebottom were hilarious together.
Joellen has always believed she was fat and unattractive. So for ten years she has been in love with her boss CEO who is married and totally safe. When he tells her his getting a divorce from his wife. Joellen suddenly decides she needs to lose weight and make herself more attractive so she has a chance.
So Cameron agrees to help her get into shape by training Joellen himself including helping her to kiss correctly. So after the amount of time they spend together with Cameron trying to build herself esteem. They are falling for each other, but Joellen can’t give up on Michael her boss.
This is very entertaining and funny romance, even dealing with a serious problem that a lot of us suffer from, a lack of self-esteem when we feel we don’t conform to the ideal.
I always enjoy JT Geissinger work in all genre, but this is great entertainment. I hope we get an Audiobook so I can hear the Scottish sexy voice and I can visualise all those muscles.

5 stars

Although this is the second book in this series, Rusty Nail by Nazarea Andrews, is a standalone, there is no need to read Fireball which is the first book in the series.
This was a slow burner of a romance between wealthy playboy Aidric Jones and single mom, Olivia Buckley. These two meet when a fire destroys Aidric home. He hires Olivia’s construction company to fix his house. Aidric has recently become a father to a daughter he never knew he had.
Lucky for Kendra, Theo and his friend Henry take her under their wing after Kendra is bullied at school.
Their kids become friends and in the process so do Olivia and Aidric.
These two couldn’t be more different. They shouldn’t work but the do. The story development was mostly about how these four came together and formed a new family unit. Regardless of his previous playboy ways, he puts Kendra’s needs a priority. He falls for Ollie but they take their time as this a new thing for both of them. As neither had dated before, but were delightful together. Well worth a read.

ARC Review: THE HOOKUP By ERIN MCCARTHY @authorerin @InkslingerPR

THE HOOKUP by Erin McCarthy is NOW available! Get your hands on this sexy contemporary romance novel now – read a sneak peek below!

About THE HOOKUP

Is there an equation for the perfect hookup? Turns out it’s a lot more complicated than one plus one. . . .

Sophie: Numbers are my comfort zone, which explains why my sex life is a big fat zero. Then again, if I’m smart enough to earn a PhD, why can’t I calculate a way to get a guy into bed, just to see what all the fuss is about? With my prima donna sister, Bella, getting married in Maine, I figure her wedding is the perfect opportunity for my little experiment. And Cain Jordan seems hot enough—he’s certainly drunk enough—to show me what I’ve been missing. Judging by the body of evidence, it’s a lot. . . .

Cain: Being stuck in the same town as my lying SOB twin brother, Christian—who may or may not be the father of the son I’m not allowed to see—is a hell of a reason to drink myself silly after the lobster boat docks each day. Any port in a storm . . . But Sophie’s different. She doesn’t play around. And she’s becoming a habit I don’t want to break. Because the smartest woman I’ve ever met is also the sexiest—and the only one who makes me want to change.

Don’t miss Bella and Christian’s story in The Breakup!

REVIEW:

The hookup is quick and cute romance, but deals with addiction which is a serious subject. Bella and Sophie decide to go out so Sophie could have a hook up.
Sophie is highly intelligent, but her fashion sense is nil so her sister Bella decided to do her hair and makeup. So in a skin tight dress, high fluffed up, and false lashes. So feeling really uncomfortable she goes to the bar where this hottie called Cain is sitting at the bar. Cain is trying to drown his sorrows after a problem with his twin brother and girlfriend.
Something clicked and Sophie goes back to Cain’s for a hookup. Normally Cain is only a hook up kind of guy, but something is different with Sophie. Sophie is painfully honest and always herself, and she feel a real connection with Cain and likes him as he is.
As a couple I really liked them together, and now I’m waiting for Bella’s story.

Read an Excerpt from THE HOOKUP

I saw him the minute we walked into the bar. A guy perched comfortably on a stool, his arms muscular, his grin confident, arrogant. He had short dark hair and a jawline that was sharp and symmetrical. Dressed in jeans and a T-shirt, this was no software engineer or physicist. This was one of those manly men that they use for memes on Pinterest and for beer commercials and underwear ads. He was abs and ass, muscles and machismo, and like any other female, I had an immediate reaction to all that testosterone.

My heart started to race and my body started to tense and tighten, and grow warm in places that normally only got hot and wet in the privacy of my own apartment. I wanted to fan myself as I stared at him, blinking through the veil of mascara and fake lashes.

It was like my vagina stood up and sang. Him. He would be the one. The man to take my virginity and make it a memory. He wasn’t my type, but that wasn’t the point. He wouldn’t be interested in me either, but I knew enough about bar culture to know that if he was here, he was interested in going home with a girl. I could be that girl.

I was delusional, of course, a fact I was forced to acknowledge immediately when I realized that despite the fact that my dress had coaxed huge cleavage from my reluctant breasts, the hottie was checking out my sister.

So typical. But I couldn’t deny that blondes were more fun. At least more fun than me.

I walked past him to the bar and plucked the menu off the countertop, debating how to proceed. Men. The one equation I could never solve.

Rose Chance is a dedicated Portland physician who loves shoes, clothes, and the finer things in life. Her colleagues call her Dr. Vogue, and she won’t even look at a man unless he’s rich. And preferably titled.

Her colleague, Matt Vasilopolous, is a Greek immigrant made good. He dresses like a schlep, always needs a shave, and doesn’t seem to own a comb.

Rose can’t stand a man who looks like a tramp. Matt loathes a woman who looks down at him. But when they’re thrown together to save a life one day, and find themselves in the same wedding party the next, Rose and Matt can no longer deny the attraction between them.

With an English baronet and his stately home in the offing, though, will Rose choose the man she’s dreamed of her whole life or the one her heart craves?

Every Rose has its thorns….
This was about Rose the doctor, who has always convinced herself she adopted and  belongs in a different family. This is mostly about Rose and her colleague Matt Vasilopolous who is the opposite of what she usually likes in a man. After working a case together, they go for a drink and click. I loved Matt, and it was nice to find out more about James the cop.
I have enjoyed getting to know the Chance family who feel like old friends. It was down to Nancy’s writing that she brought Rose to life so well, that I was invested enough to be so irritated
The audiobook was narration was superb as the others, I wasn’t jolted from the story once. but I couldn’t warm to Rose, I kept wanting shout at her. As this is mostly from Rose’s pov so I was irritated with her most of the time. There is always someone in a family who annoys you so it was true to life in that respect. I am going to miss the chance family, but luckily I think there are some more to listen to.

I received this audiobook as part of my participation in a blog tour with Audiobookworm Promotions. The tour is being sponsored by Nancy Warren. The gifting of this audiobook did not affect my opinion of it.

REVIEW:

Wow I do love a good supernatural mixed with history and folklore. We follow heiress Alexis after she inherits the family legacy Foster House that been in the family for a long time, but she knew nothing about. Teresa in her notes alludes to her family’s history and lore, and that’s what make this so believable.

It felt like I was there with Alexis, and it was my family I am hooked. This all starts at a funeral, when we meet Alexis and the story unfolds. Alexis is studying law and an intern at the district attorney’s Office. Suddenly she is thrust into an adventure of supernatural proportions. I not giving anything away except I am absolutely hooked and I need book two now.

This is so fascinating all the
History mixed with folklore, I was hooked and right up my alley I couldn’t put it down and I had to get to the end, only to realise there’s another book to come. If you enjoy a good supernatural with plenty of suspense then this is one for you.

Narrator: Carol Ayon

Length: 7 hours 25 minutes

Series: Original Sin, Book 1

Publisher: Strange Roads Press

Genre: Romantic Suspense

Magdalene is a mob-connected madam. Tommy Flynn is the hitman who loves her. And when they’re framed for the murder of a rival crime boss’s favorite son, Magdalene fears the sins of her past have come back to haunt her.

After spending half a lifetime in a seamy underworld where love is for sale and men worship at the altar of sex and greed, claiming sanctuary in a cathedral is the last thing she wants to do – and the only chance she has to find out who set her up. With all clues pointing to Magdalene’s ex-lover, a working girl called Lola, the legendary madam is reluctant to trust Tommy, a smooth-talking hired gun, and risk being burned again.

But as time grows short and secrets are revealed, Magdalene will have to look into the dark places inside herself if she is to catch a killer and survive with body and soul intact. In the corrupt city of Crawley, Massachusetts, passion, crime, and religion collide in this steamy, neo-noir romantic thriller.

Narrator Bio

I may not be your typical audiobook narrator, but then again maybe I am. I have a passion for acting and received my undergraduate degree in Theatre Arts. I went on to pursue a graduate degree in Elementary Education and found that my favorite part of the day was during Read Aloud time. It was during that time that I could bring stories to life for my students and help them get caught up in a story. I loved to hear them say, “Keep going!” when it was time to stop. I continue to act in local stage productions but hope to begin a long career in audio book narration.

Q&A with Author Nicola R. White

  • Was a possible audiobook recording something you were conscious of while writing?
    • Definitely! When I write, I try to keep in mind how the story would work in audio or adapted for film or television. Since I write plot-driven stories (as opposed to character-driven), that approach helps me keep the action moving. If a scene would be boring when read or acted out by a narrator or actor, it’s probably boring to read, too!
  • Are you an audiobook listener? What about the audiobook format appeals to you?
    • I love listening to audiobooks while I drive, whether I’m going a short distance or on a road trip. Listening to a good book helps pass the time and actually makes me look forward to getting in the car, even though I usually hate commuting or driving long distances. If the book has really drawn me in, sometimes I’m sorry when I reach my destination!
  • Is there a particular part of this story that you feel is more resonating in the audiobook performance than in the book format?
    • Carol’s (the narrator) performance is spot-on, especially the way she voices the heroine, Magdalene. I was amazed when I heard how closely her version of the character matched the vision I had when I was writing Man’s Ruin.
  • If this title were being made into a TV series or movie, who would you cast to play the  primary roles?
    • When I’m writing a book, I actually choose actors to play the characters and refer to photos for reference and inspiration. For Magdalene, I would cast Charisma Carpenter (from Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel). For Tommy, I would cast a young Val Kilmer (assuming time travel is an option).
  • What do you say to those who view listening to audiobooks as “cheating” or as inferior to “real reading”?
    • I can’t believe people still feel this way. Audiobooks have been around forever! Firstly, I would remind people that not everyone has the ability to “read” in the same way. Secondly, I would ask them if watching a movie adaptation or reading an ebook is also cheating.
  • In your opinion, what are the pros and cons of writing a stand-alone novel vs. writing a series?
    • I prefer writing series because I always want to know what happens next. I don’t tend to be a heavy plotter, so writing the books is the only way I’ll find out! As a reader, I also prefer series because when I find something I like, I can’t get enough of it. As a writer, the downside of writing a series (for me, at least) is that I work on so many different projects at any given time, my release schedule isn’t as consistent as I’d like it to be. I sometimes feel guilty for writing a couple series at once when I know fans are waiting for the next book in one series or another. That being said, I am committed to finishing any series I start, so readers don’t have to worry that they won’t get to find out how it ends.
  • What bits of advice would you give to aspiring authors?
    • Never give up.
    • Consider self-publishing.
    • If you do self-publish, hire a good editor and cover designer.
    • Learn about the business side of being an author. I’ve seen too many authors and artists sign awful contracts.
  • What’s next for you?
    • Right now, I’m working on the sequel to Man’s Ruin as well as the next book in my paranormal romance series, the New England Furies. I am also currently producing a comic book based on the Irish folktale of Eliza Day and I am writing my first game for Choice of Games, a company that produces text-based, multiple-choice games.

This reminded me of a good old fashioned Gangster story, some of my early reading favourites were early mobsters books
After the murder of a rival mobster’s son at the brothel Magdalene manages. This happened while Tommy was on duty. So they have to lay low until they find out whats going on.
I have say I loved this audiobook, it reminded me of the black and white old gangster movie. So I was in my element. The two main characters Tommy and Magdalene, a madam and hitman hardly heroes, but like old school movies a hitman that won’t kill women and children. Magdalene a madam with a heart.
I not going into the story, it’s not for the fainthearted or under 18 years old.
This is over 7 hours long and I couldn’t turn it off, listening long into the night

The narrator was brilliant, the different male voices was top notch. I was mesmerised and just had to keep listening.
I received this audiobook as part of my participation in a blog tour with Audiobookworm Promotions. The tour is being sponsored by Nicola R. White. The gifting of this audiobook did not affect my opinion of it.
