Those who love romantic suspense and thrillers with heart have found their new literary crush.

An Irishman on the run. He’s left a lot of things behind him…but they’re not far enough back.

Conor McBride has lost everything, and if he can’t find a way to disappear in a hurry, the next thing he loses could be his life. Running from enemies he’s never met and haunted by his own destructive actions, Conor needs a refuge secure enough to hold his secrets. A farmhouse inn tucked amidst the green mountains of Vermont seems ideal, but when his past catches up with him, Conor discovers the beautiful young innkeeper has secrets of her own, and hers are more likely to get them both killed.

Author of the award-winning Conor McBride Series, Kathryn Guare’s character-driven novels are all somewhere on the spectrum between romance and suspense, and some are even perfectly balanced between the two. She has a passion for exploring diverse cultures and cuisine, Classical music and all things Celtic, and has a habit of mixing these into her stories along with other topics and enthusiasms that capture her interest. Formerly, as an executive with a global health advocacy organization, she traveled extensively throughout the world. Currently, as a native Vermonter, she hates to leave home during foliage season.

Narrator Bio

Internationally acclaimed voice actor Wayne Farrell began his professional career at The National Theatre of Ireland, where he met the legendary Irish seanachai Eamon Kelly and became fascinated with the art of storytelling. Using skills learned during this time, Farrell has worked extensively in both documentary and audiobook narration and is widely admired for the rich clarity and versatility of his voice. His credits include award-winning authors such as Donal Ryan, whose debut novel The Spinning Heart won The Guardian’s First Book Award as well as Irish Book of the Year; and New York Times and USA Today bestsellers such as Morgan Rice, author of the fantasy epic The Sorcerer’s Ring.

Well what can one say after 10hours and 25 minutes of nonstop intrigue and deception.
We follow Conner McBride after he sells the farm and property after the death of his mother. Conner is world class musician and plays the violin. He leaves Ireland and goes to Vermont to work on a farm and old Inn that his employee and friend introduced him too via internet.
Conner can’t believe his luck when he meets Kate, his boss. They start to full in love, but before they can start enjoy life. Unfortunately both their pasts comes back to haunt them. Once we find out Conner had worked with MI6 in the past, and they need his help again.
This is a book full of spies, and bad men that need to be behind bars. There is love between Kate and Conner and I was absorbed and listened in one go and now need the next one. This book had everything, and it had to be listened to carefully in case you miss something.
I really enjoyed listening to the narrator’s voice, and his Irish lilt was pleasure to listen to. I kept me so focused on the action the time sped to fast.

I received this audiobook as part of my participation in a blog tour with Audiobookworm Promotions. The tour is being sponsored by Kathryn Guare. The gifting of this audiobook did not affect my opinion of it.

I received this audiobook as part of my participation in a blog tour with Audiobookworm Promotions. The tour is being sponsored by Kathryn Guare. The gifting of this audiobook did not affect my opinion of it.

  • Tell us about the process of turning your book into an audiobook and how you selected your narrator.
    • I used “ACX”, which is an audiobook platform offered by Amazon to match up authors with narrators. It’s great, because all the technical bits and bobs that I know nothing about are taken care of. All I had to do was upload a script for the auditions and agree on the contract with the narrator to get it all started, then upload an audiobook cover and description for the Audible and iTunes listings. There was a process for giving narrators an opportunity to audition, using the script I’d provided. I was beyond thrilled to have Wayne Farrell agree to take on the work. He’d narrated one of my all-time favorite books (“The Spinning Heart”) and I could hardly believe my luck!
  • Are you an audiobook listener? What about the audiobook format appeals to you? What do you say to those who view listening to audiobooks as “cheating” or as inferior to “real reading”?
    • Yes, I love audiobooks. I once had a job with a 1-hour commute both ways and I went through dozens of audiobooks. I love having someone tell me a story. It can be captivating in a way that’s different from reading it on the page, and I don’t think it’s cheating at all. It’s just a different sort of experience, and I just read a news story that science suggests listening to a book is a more emotional experience than seeing a movie based on it!. There are so many books and so little time! I’m happy to use anything that helps me get through more of them and I always have a paperback and an audiobook going at the same time (Well, not at the same time, but you know what I mean!)
  • Do you believe certain types of writing translate better into audiobook format?
    • I’m sure that’s true. Probably books that are strong on plot, action and dialogue work the best, but whatever the genre, the things I find tedious when reading a book are the same things I have trouble with when listening to one. If there is too much exhaustive description of setting, or facts and figures, and too little language that pulls me into the story or subject matter, I start to get impatient. But for me, the narrator is key more than genre. If I am enjoying the voice, and the storytelling skills of the person narrating, I can put up with almost anything else.
  • Was a possible audiobook recording something you were conscious of while writing?
    • I think I probably had a movie more in mind than the audiobook. Not because I really wanted to see the book made into a movie, but because I could see the movie in my head as I wrote it. Some readers have mentioned that the book feels “cinematic” and they can also easily picture a movie.  However, I recently read a news story that scientists believe an audiobook can be a more emotionally involving experience for a reader than seeing a movie based on the book!
  • If this title were being made into a TV series or movie, who would you cast to play the primary roles?
    • Oh, I’ve had this conversation with so many readers and friends! He’s probably a little too old for the role now, but I’ve always said I’d be happy with Hugh Jackman as Conor. The role he played in the film “The Fountain” struck me as closest to the appearance and personality of Conor. And I think Aaron Paul (Breaking Bad) would do a great job as Sedgwick. And for Kate, hmmm, maybe Alexis Bledel?
  • How closely did you work with your narrator before and during the recording process? Did you give them any pronunciation tips or special insight into the characters?
    • I did provide some brief descriptions of how I viewed the characters, but I thought it best to let the narrator develop his own approach, rather than asking him to adopt an accent or particular vocal style he may not be comfortable with. For me, it was most important that Conor McBride sound authentically Irish, which is why I was determined to have an Irish narrator. There were a few corrections when the UK/Irish pronunciation of a word slipped into an American character’s dialogue, but not often. Wayne has a remarkable range and facility with accents, and by the time I was listening to the chapters he’d already done his own editing and correcting.
  • Were there any real life inspirations behind your writing?
    • This book is mostly set in Vermont, and I am a native Vermonter, so there are a lot of settings drawn from my own experience. The setting for the Rembrandt Inn was inspired by my cousin’s gorgeous house in Greensboro, VT, which does overlook a gorge that has a brook running through it. My heritage is Irish, so the scenes in Ireland were also drawn from my experiences visiting the places on the Dingle Peninsula.
  • Is there a particular part of this story that you feel is more resonating in the audiobook performance than in the book format?
    • Well, I have to admit that ever since I wrote the book, I was looking forward to having the romantic chemistry between Kate and Conor brought to life. I almost think hearing it in audio is better than the movie, because it is still the book the way I wrote it rather than an adaptation, and it was really a treat for me to hear!
  • How did you celebrate after finishing this novel?
    • Probably with a little “happy dance” and an ice-cold cocktail.
  • Have any of your characters ever appeared in your dreams?
    • Yes, and it was fantastic. I’ll say no more. 😉
  • What bits of advice would you give to aspiring authors?
    • The standard advice to writers is “write what you know” and I think that is very limiting and intimidating. My advice is “write what you want to know” because that opens up the world for you. Take the time to do the research to learn what you need to, then just go at it and don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t or shouldn’t do it.
  • Do you have any tips for authors going through the process of turning their books into audiobooks?
    • After you’ve found a narrator who has the voice and skill that you want, and you’ve given them some basic guidelines, you have to let it go and let them do the work. It’s like turning your screenplay over to the director and actors. If the narrator is focused on responding to your detailed direction it means they aren’t developing their own relationship with the story and the result will be less than it could have been.
  • What’s next for you?
    • I’m working on writing the fourth book in the series, and the audio version of the 3rd book, City Of A Thousand Spies is in production so it will be available on Audible and iTunes before too long. Stay tuned!

My god what a great story, I loved every minute of this 10 hours story.
This is really the story of Gloria a forties screen goddess who was brutally murdered many years before Kate was born. Kate is determined to find her grandmother’s murderer.
This is set in the late sixties, early seventies when Kate is a Film student and a fierce feminist. While going through her dead mother’s garage, Kate finds some missing footage from the last film Gloria made. This is the start of a wonderful crime adventure, as we watch Kate blossom from a tortured fearful young woman into a confident well balanced human being. This was one of the best crime thrillers I’ve listened to this year.
I have to say this is a mesmerising and addictive listen. Christa is amazing with all the different voices. Keeping me glued to this amazing adventure.

Review Tour: THE LAST LIE SHE TOLD ( Lies and Misdirection Book 1 ) by K.J. MCGILLICK @KJMcGillickAuth

Title: The Last Lie She Told

Series: Lies and Misdirection Book 1

Author: K.J. McGillick

Genre: Romantic Suspense

Published: July 20, 2018

Lies and misdirection rule the game.

To some, Fiona O’Dell is clever and manipulative. To others, she is a dangerous sociopath. One thing is certain – she’s trouble wherever she goes. Now she has vanished from her job at a cutting-edge genetic technology firm, but not before being seen leaving a motel room where one man is found dead, another on the edge of death. When a genome-editing tool of incredible potential also goes missing, the CEO is convinced that Fiona has it. Millions of dollars are at stake. His fear—she will auction it off on the Dark Web.
After the devastating loss of his wife, Lee Stone leaves the Chicago homicide unit to search for a new career opportunity in the private sector. Things go smoothly, and he is comfortable at the firm until he is assigned the case of Fiona O’Dell. In a race to find her, he tracks her across four states in an attempt to obtain the gene-editing tool. Fiona continually eludes his grasp and leaves a trail of dead men in her wake. With little information and even less evidence, each new crime scene brings more questions than answers.

It is not until Lee teams up with the bright and forthright NYPD detective, Belle Hughes, that he connects the dots. As their personal relationship heats up, the pair encounters a growing number of potential suspects including the CEO himself. But are the murders and theft connected?
While secrets are revealed, Lee and Belle can draw only one conclusion: Fiona controls the game, the players, even the course of the investigation. As the danger to their own lives escalates, they must master the game or fall victim to it.

Benjamin gave us a rundown of the crime scene. “The pictures were nauseating, Jackson,” Benjamin said. “Dennis’s ankles looked like barbequed pulled pork. The blood-crusted handcuffs had dug so far into his skin I’m positive the metal met bone. The handcuffs had chunks of skin and hair embedded in the small wells; they had rubbed his wrists raw and had cut into the tendons.”
Mary made a face of disgust while Benjamin paused to collect his thoughts. He sounded exhausted, but he pushed on.
“I don’t understand how people stomach the savage destruction people do to each other. What the hell is wrong with people?”
“You’d be surprised how desensitized our civilization has become,” Lee, the new member of my team, said. “When I worked Chicago’s gang division and then homicide it felt like I was in the middle of some tribal war.”
Benjamin let that sit and continued. “The crime scene photos showed three stab marks inflicted without hesitation at points that would cause the most damage. I’m not a blood splatter expert, but it looked like someone had straddled Dennis at the hips and plunged the blade from a back overhead reach into his stomach until the blade hilt fully sank into his stomach. The attacker ripped the blade upward and then tore it out. Think of the brutality it took to cut him open like that—gutted like a deer. The stab penetrated his aorta and killed him.
“But from what the report indicated, the punctures in his femoral arteries triggered the gusher-like blood spray, which was easy to visualize pulsating in rhythm with each heartbeat. Jackson, I swear, the room looked like Pollock had risen from the dead just to put his signature splatter and drip marks on the cream-colored walls,” Benjamin said, taking a deep breath through his nose.
“They found Ryan passed out next to Dennis. His chest was smeared with dry blood, and his face was painted with blood in a war paint manner. He had no visible injuries but was in a coma. They transported him to the hospital.
“A long blade, like a hunting knife, was found on the floor. Part of the handle was still sticky with brown, crusted blood. The sheets were soaked with whatever blood hadn’t hit the walls. The report said the room had a metallic and urine smell.”
Benjamin’s voice wavered, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he bolted to puke. I suppose that visual of all that blood burned into your brain would haunt you forever.
“So, what makes you think this Fiona person was with them?” Lee asked as he jotted notes on his short yellow pad.
“There aren’t any cameras at the motel. But when the police took statements, one witness said she’d seen a woman matching Fiona’s description knock on the door ten minutes after the men entered. However, the witness appeared inebriated, so they’re taking what she said with a grain of salt. There’s no physical evidence placing her in the room,” Benjamin said.
           “What a mess,” Lee said.
“But I don’t understand why you need us,” I said. “You need to let local law enforcement handle this mess. This is a job for them.”
“I need you to find Fiona. The police are treating this case as a murder. Ryan’s in the hospital with high levels of ketamine. If he wakes up, he might not remember anything, and there’s no physical evidence he murdered Dennis. But I believe they feel strongly that Ryan is the main suspect in the murder. The police aren’t going to look for Fiona. They’re going to focus on the murder, and unless Fiona becomes a person of interest or she’s dead too, she’s not on their radar. Fiona is an adult, and the police said our only option was to file a missing person report, if warranted.
“Here’s my dilemma, Jackson. Ryan, Fiona, and Dennis were working on a sensitive project. Someone in that department stole the entire research project and wiped the server and cloud of all data.” He hesitated.
“So why not alert the FBI or local law enforcement?” Mary interjected, raising an eyebrow and leaning forward to get closer to the speaker on the table.
Benjamin cleared his throat. “We acquired the project from a lab in Berlin. Berlin found a mechanism that allows the alteration of DNA at the base level. The implications are enormous. Upon completion of the project, our price to sell it would be in the neighborhood of half a billion. It could be used for good, to cure disease, or for bad, to alter existing DNA after someone committed a crime. Whoever stole the project, wiped all the servers of the information after they completed the transfer to an external drive. On the dark web, it could be sold for billions. We wanted to sell it to one entity, so that party could fully develop it and market it. On the dark web, however, it could be sold again and again. So where is it? Either Dennis hid it, or Ryan or Fiona have it. I need you to find out which one of them has it, or where they hid it.”
New review graphic blog_review
Wow what a great crime thriller with a side dose of love. Lee has just become a private investigator after becoming burnt out as a homicide detective.
The first case he has, is with Mary who looks like everyone’s grandmother, so he is shocked by her quick brain and perceptions when interviewing someone. They are  tracking down young woman called Fiona who seems to leave a trail of destruction in her wake.
This is an interesting thriller that takes you round the country following Fiona. So many weird and wonderful people. One of the wonderful is Belle a detective who is following Fiona, who is now a suspect for murder. As soon as they meet Belle, Mary decides to do some matchmaking. So we follow our merry band of detectives, and we pick up clues as we go.
I think what made this so enjoyable was we heard from the three detectives, and at times Fiona. So it made for a rounded an enjoyable read. As this is a spoiler free review that’s all for now. I have to say the name of the series says it all ( Lies and Misdirection )

About A Pilgrimage to Death

They murdered her sister. They threatened her church. Their day of reckoning is at hand.

Cici Gurule is a freewheeling, progressive reverend who’ll stop at nothing to protect her flock. When she finds the dead body of a parishioner in the nearby Santa Fe National Forest, she’s horrified to realize the victim bears the same stab wounds that ended her twin sister’s life one year earlier.

Together with her detective friend and loyal pair of Great Pyrenees, she vows to hunt down the killer before she’s forced to officiate another funeral. Soon, however, Cici discovers her sister was on the trail of a deep-rooted criminal operation… and her death was no random act of violence.

Now that the criminals are out for Cici’s blood, the pastor must catch the wolf by the tail before it goes in for the kill.

A Pilgrimage to Death is a high-octane mystery thriller. If you like motorcycling sleuths, fast-paced action, and a dash of humor, then you’ll love Alexa Padgett’s edge-of-your-seat novel.

Exclusive Excerpt:

The eerie feeling expanded as they turned the last corner back toward her house. Out front was a large, black pickup. It was wedged between Justin’s police car and a compact sedan. Cici’s steps slowed when Justin cursed, low and vicious.

“Do you know who that is?” she asked, trying to keep her voice level. Hard to do with the adrenaline dump that now pumped through her veins. She didn’t need that spot in her head pinging danger! for Cici to realize the black beast of a truck growling mere feet from her doorstep meant trouble.

Justin shook his head as he half-stepped in front of her, causing the hairs on Cici’s arms to rise. He might not know the person in the truck—hard to see through the dark tint—but the vehicle clearly upset him as much as her.

Mona backed up against Cici’s leg while Rodolfo tugged at the end of his leash, his snarl deep and guttural.

The driver’s side window rolled down about three inches. Cici squinted, but all she made out was a dark beanie pulled low over the person’s eyebrows, and large, black plastic sunglasses.

The person threw something out the window. Rodolfo leaped forward, tugging the leash from Cici’s hand as she flinched back. The dog sprinted toward the truck.

“Rodolfo, heel!” Cici called. The dog quivered to a halt, whining, as the truck’s engine roared. Within seconds, it sped down the street.

Cici’s breathing remained labored as she hurried forward, snatching up Rodolfo’s leash. The dogs whined again and nuzzled against her, bumping her hips with their heads.

Justin snatched the paper from the street. He stood there, at the curb, scanning the message.

“Did you get the license plate?” Cici asked.

Justin shook his head, still staring after the truck. “Covered in mud or something.” He swallowed, glanced down at the paper in his hand.

“What does that say?”

“I’m not sure you should read it.”

“Not really your choice.” Cici switched the dog leash to one hand and held out her free one. “The person came to my home. The message is clearly for me.”

Justin handed it over with obvious reluctance.

Your sister didn’t know when to stop snooping.

REVIEW:

It’s been my pleasure to read Alexa Padgett’s A Pilgrimage to Death, which is book one in The Reverend Cici Gurule mysteries. This has set the scene and standard for future adventures. This is a spoiler free as the book isn’t released yet.

Rev Cici has come back to her home town to takeover at the Local church. Cici’s twin sister was killed and the murderer never caught. Cici and her twin’s friend Sam a Detective returned to solve the case. Unfortunately is a year later when a body is found dead with the same knife wound as her sister.

Suddenly after a year things start happening, all being connected to Anna Carmen. I loved Cici and Sam, they had a real partnership together. Cici was real, with same fears as anybody else. A modern woman trying to make a difference. I

grew up on Agatha Christie, and love a good mystery. This was a good murder mystery with a lot going on. I was glued to the pages, when I got my surprise at the end. I wanted to read another one. So book two please, as I’m impatient for the next one.

“Apparently, my connection to Brandon is out for all the world to see and dissect. No one really knows that you and I reconnected, and it needs to stay that way. Now that I’ve been cleared, the media will hopefully move on. The media, police, and public are always looking for connections in cases like these, and they’ll hit pay dirt when they figure out our history. You need to go to work and stick to your daily routine until this whole thing blows over.”

“Don’t you see that this gives us the advantage? Let us be the ones who control the narrative before this asshole tries to use this against us,” Rye suggested confidently, taking the coffee cup from her hand and setting it gently on the countertop. He leaned in close so that the entire front of his body was touching hers, causing an instant reaction. “I know how much it bothers you to lose control of the situation.”

Grace could have easily kept arguing, running them in circles until they each had to call a stalemate. Fortunately, an impasse would be in her favor, but all she could think of was that this could very well be the last time he was in her apartment for quite a while… at least until the police had caught the individual responsible for Brad’s death.

“You’re so mean,” Grace whispered encouragingly, tilting her head back as she finally allowed him to press his warm lips against her neck. Did he truly believe that she would fall for this type of persuasion? It would have been laughable had her body not responded to his in kind. Well, it seemed that she would have to improvise and turn the tables to her advantage. She ever so slowly ran her right hand over his wrinkled shirt until she was cupping the bulge in his pants. The vibrations of his groan traveled to every erogenous zone in her body. “Why don’t we think on the merits each other’s positions while we take a shower?”

Rye pulled back, his smoldering gaze zeroing in on her and clearly trying to find the angle she was working in her bid to get him to see things her way. He was a very highly intelligent man. He had to see that he would lose without her cooperation.

“Are you attempting to distract me with sex?”

“Aren’t you doing the very same thing?” Grace countered, purposely slipping past him and heading for her bedroom without looking back. She made sure to emphasize the sway in her hips as she walked away. “Why don’t we see who comes out the victor?”

READ MY REVIEW:

Motive is book two in the Office Roulette Trilogy and follows the misfortunes of Grace and her secret lover Rye Marshall from a rival company. This follows Grace and Rye relationship and the impact of Brad’s murder, and how it has affected their lives. Lucky for Grace she has the support of her two best friends after the events that happened at the end of Means.
This is spoiler free, not that I know who the killer is as new suspects come to light, as more clues are found. We follow the fortunes from each of her friend pov’s as each book follows one of the friends and their partner’s. The next book follows Cynthia and Gareth, and as this is a trilogy we should find out who the killer is.
When we follow each indivuial couple, the story is told from a dual POV, so we get a balance view. The more we find out the less people you can trust.

About MEANS (Office Roulette #1)

From USA Today Bestselling Author Kennedy Layne comes a sexy trilogy that involves greed, power, and the desire to do it all over again…

Smith Gallo has everything a man could ever want at the tip of his fingertips, except of course the woman he loves. To what lengths will he be willing to go to make his ambitions come true?

Laurel Calanthe is one successful stock pick away from making partner when she finds herself in desperate need of an alibi. There’s only one problem. The man who can save her from being arrested is her only competitor and the one who now holds her fate in his hands.

Greed is a powerful motivator in the game of making money, but desire can overcome even the strongest motive.

Title: Murder Girl

Author: Lisa Renee Jones

Release Date: July 10, 2018

Series: Lilah Love #2

New York Times bestselling author Lisa Renee Jones returns with the second book in her electrifying series featuring Lilah Love, an FBI profiler who doesn’t fight her dark side—she embraces it.

It’s Lilah Love’s job to inhabit a killer’s mind. The unapologetically tough FBI profiler is very comfortable there. But her latest case is making her head spin. It’s a string of brutal assassinations carried out across the country, each tied to a mysterious tattoo. Body by body, she’s followed the clues all the way back to her hometown. And every step of the way, the killer has been following her.

Here, beneath the glamour of the privileged Hamptons community, is a secret long buried but never forgotten. It’s bigger than Lilah. It’s powerful enough to escape the reach of the FBI. And it’s more personal than anyone can imagine. Because it’s hiding in Lilah’s own past. To fight it, she’s forced to turn to her lethally tempting ex, Kane Mendez. He’s an expert at bringing out Lilah’s darkest impulses. If she plans to survive, she’s going to need them.

I enter the building and ignore the pretty brunette behind the triangle-shaped stone desk and head to the stairs.

“Excuse me,” she calls out, but I ignore her. Kane knows I’m coming. He has people watching me and this building. He knows I’m in the building by now. I don’t need “sweet thing” down there to announce me in yet another way. I’m at the top of the stairs before she finishes her fourth excuse me, which is now a bit louder, as if I just haven’t heard her the other three times. I turn down the hallway and walk toward the desk outside Kane’s office where Tabitha sits, minus any more originality today than the last time I was here. She’s still bleached blonde, with her fake, giant-ass boobs hanging out of a silk blouse with numerous buttons undone that turn it into a slut show that could have been professional.

I pass her without a word, approaching Kane’s double doors, when she says, “Drama follows you, Lilah Love.”

“No,” I say without looking at her. “Dead bodies follow me.” I glance over my shoulder at her. “You should remember that.”

And with that statement that really had no purpose other than it felt really damn good, I open Kane’s door.

I step inside Kane’s office and find him sitting behind his desk, just in time to hear him say, “She’s here,” into his intercom and then release the button.

With exaggerated drama that I reserve for moments when I want to be a smart-ass or simply announce my fucking presence, I use my body to shut the door, but I don’t hang out and wait for it to grow roots. I rotate and charge toward Kane and that King Mendez desk of his that he doesn’t get to use as shelter. By the time I round the wooden atrocity, he’s standing, towering over me in a charcoal suit and a purple shirt with black stripes and some sort of black-and-gray tie. It’s flashy, expensive, and works on him when it would not on nine out of ten other people. But then, while I keep a low profile—aside from the door drama, of course—and favor my black nondescript looks, his entire persona says “look at me” with the intended message of “I have nothing to hide.” A lie he tells the world and, after he drugged me to keep me from knowing what happened last night, apparently me.

We stand there for a beat or ten without words before he says, “Lilah,” and the very fact that he says it like sex is all it takes for me to snap.

I slap him in the face, because my bare fist is too small to hurt him the way his jaw would hurt me. It’s also a disgrace to a man to be slapped, which is why one UFC fighter I’ve watched here and there does it to his opponents. And Kane is my opponent. He turns his head with the force of the blow, my palm stinging in the aftermath.

“Well now, beautiful,” he says, fixing me with a brown-eyed stare. “I know you like it rough, but is now the time? We both have questions we want answered.”

I slap him again, and this time he catches my wrist before I pull back. I try to slap him with my free hand, and he catches it as well, this time before contact. “You get two, not three.”

My gaze flicks to the handprint on his right cheek that matches the one on the left before I meet his stare and say, “Two was pretty damn satisfying.”

“Why didn’t you tell me about your stalker?” he demands, his question low, lethal, his anger banked just beneath the surface, while mine is the cherry on top of every lie he’s told me. “Because we both know that’s what we’re dealing with here,” he adds.

“Let go of me, Kane,” I bite out, my voice taut with impatience. No. Make that a desire to smack him again.

“After you tell me about your stalker and the notes.”

“Let go of me, Kane,” I repeat slowly, “or my next move will be a knee to your family jewels. And I promise you, it will be hard enough that neither of us will have to worry about our urge to fuck ever again.” My jaw sets hard, but he doesn’t release me. “You drugged me,” I remind him, “and then searched my house before leaving me with a gun that I was too drugged to use. So if you think I won’t do it—”

He releases me but doesn’t step back. “I didn’t leave you with a gun you couldn’t use. I kept you at my house until sunrise, and I left a team guarding your place, front and back. I protected you, like I always do.”

I don’t analyze why that makes me angrier. That’s for later. For now, there is this: “I’d pull my gun on you and back you off, Kane, but I swore the next time I did that, I’d shoot you. And I need information from you.”

“I’m all yours, beautiful,” he says, holding his hands out. “I always am.” He motions to the sitting area to his left and behind him. “Let’s sit and make this peaceful.”

“Peaceful, my ass,” I say.

REVIEW:

We start as book one finishes, as always with a Miss Jones book we start straight away with plenty of action and some murders committed to start a war between the cartels. Kane Mendez still has a large part to play in her life.

This is action all the way through, and I was riveted by this tortured and brilliant kick ass woman that Miss Jones has created.

Quite a bit happens in this episode of Lilah Love, The more we learn the more complicated and frightening the situation becomes. I hope I have conveyed the essence of the book, but not any spoilers. If it was a while since you read book one, as regular reader of Lisa Renee Jones Series, at the beginning is a reminder of all the main characters at where we are in the story.

This is not a standalone, you must read Murder Notes first or you will be lost. If you haven’t read book one, it is well worth it.

Kay Hunter is finally back at work after her injuries from her last case. After finding out Williamson is corrupt, and was responsible for her injuries. While in prison the allegations he has made against DI Devon Sharp. Her direct boss is on forced leave until Kay can clear him of the allegations .
So we start with Kay working on a 10 year old cold case. The case is of a soldier who is killed in a motorcycle accident. Doubts were raised, but never investigated properly.
This is what appears to be a simple case. Unfortunately the investigation uncovers much more than anyone is expecting. I love a good detective series, and this is a good series. It makes you feel like you are there discovering the clues with them. I really enjoyed this for many reasons. I felt I was in the middle of the story with a huge cast of characters, what always surprises me when I get to the end and there is only one narrator. The other is it finishes to quickly, so I now am waiting for book six

I received this audiobook as part of my participation in a blog tour with Audiobookworm Promotions. The tour is being sponsored by Rachel Amphlett. The gifting of this audiobook did not affect my opinion of it.

ARC Review: UNLOCKING LIES ( Keys to Loves Book 3 ) by USA Today Bestselling Author KENNEDY LAYNE @KennedyL_Author @InkslingerPR

About UNLOCKING LIES

Secrets and lies have a way of weaving a deadly web. Returning home from his last deployment shouldn’t have been complicated, but Jace Kendall was immediately drawn into a murder investigation that hits a little too close to home. The last thing he should be doing was reigniting old passions that should have been kept buried, but he’s never been a guy who plays by the rules.

Shae has suffered for twelve years without knowing why her sister disappeared. The long-awaited answers are now within reach, and she’ll have no choice but to trust the one man who knows more than he’s telling.

It isn’t long before Jace and Shae are lost in the mystery of solving a case that’s long gone cold. When they find the answers they’ve been looking for, a darkness is unveiled that will leave one of them in the crosshairs of a psychopath.

REVIEW:

Another visit to Blyth Lake to visit with Kendall family, and this time we meet Jace the next sibling home, who is overwhelmed with the key from his father.
On his first day in town, when he realises that Shea Erwin has arrived in town. Shea has lived with guilt every day since her little sister disappeared.
Shea has come back to town to get answers, and to tempt the killer. Jace can’t believe Shea, who now is psychiatrist in a town miles away is here in Blyth Lake. Jace wastes no time in taking the opportunity to get to know the beautiful woman she has turned into.
This had a slow start, but was setting the scene, and introducing most of the town, as Shea was questioning everyone. After leaving plenty of opportunity for the killer to catch the bait. Things definitely livens up.
You must read the first two books in the series, otherwise you will be lost. Things are in Blyth Lake are getting exciting, but now I have wait read the next book. I want to know who the serial killer is. I have a clue, but I’m not telling.

About UNLOCKING SECRETS

A grim discovery in Lance Kendall’s home proved one thing—the residents of Blyth Lake had a serial killer in their midst. Now Lance had unintentionally put a target on his back. Worst yet, he’s made the only woman he ever loved known to a murderer.

A trip down memory lane with the man who’d broken Brynn Mercer’s heart wasn’t the smartest thing she’d ever done in her life, but their reunion was a slow burn of temptation that she couldn’t ignore.

Together, they will only have one chance to correct the past. Will the hidden secrets he uncovered threaten their love or solidify it for a future that has always been out of their reach?
