Published by: Monster House Books
Publication date: March 26th 2019
Genres: Dystopian, Fantasy, Young Adult

A prequel novella to the new series from USA Today’s ‘must read YA paranormal romance’ author, Christina Bauer.

One day, eighteen-year-old Thorne will be the Emperor of the Omniverse, the single being who rules countless worlds. Trouble is, his father Cole–who’s also the current Emperor–is a sadistic freak.

In fact, Cole won’t even keep his promises to the very humans who got him his throne.

Thorne won’t stand for it. He decides to travel to the human world and make good on his father’s promises. What he doesn’t count on is falling in love….

“I love how Bauer manages to add some awesome new world building to each of her books.”– Woven Magic

This new series is perfect for: fans of urban fantasy, action and adventure, cool science, evil corporations, forbidden romance and hot new classmates who may or may not be aliens.

Goodreads / Amazon / Barnes & Noble / iBooks / Kobo / Google Play

REVIEW:

Oh god I can’t wait for Alien Minds after reading about Thorne and his fight to do the right thing for the Universe and to help others. Once he meets Meimi everything changes, and looking after her and finding out everything about her is paramount.

This is the second Prequel and is from Thorne’s point of view, so to get a balance view before we all enjoy Alien Minds coming next month its best to read Scythe which is from Meimi’s point of view and is on KindleUnlimited at the moment.

Now I have another series of Christina Bauer to follow, sometimes I would like just a peak inside her imagination and see how she does it time after time. Except I think it might give me a fright.
Another winner to enjoy.

Blog Tour + Review: APOCALYPSE 5 (Archive of the Fives #1 ) by STACEY ROURKE! @rourkewrites @XpressoTours

Apocalypse Five
Stacey Rourke
(Archive of the Fives, #1)
Publication date: February 12th 2019
Genres: Science Fiction, Young Adult

Good luck and have a pleasant apocalypse.

The end of the world is coming. How or when, scientists can’t agree upon. For decades, Earth’s best line of defense has been a team of young soldiers known as the Apocalypse Five, forced into virtual reality simulations to train for Doom’s Day. But, this is no game. Death on the grid is brutally final and calls up the next in a long line of cadets.

Stationed aboard the AT-1-NS Starship, the A5 are celebrities thrust into the limelight by a calling they didn’t choose. All it takes is one unscheduled mission, showing seventeen-year-old team leader Detroit a harsh and unfathomable reality, to shake the A5’s belief in all they thought they knew. After questioning people with the power to destroy them, the team is framed for a crime they didn’t commit and marked for death. Now, the hunt is on.

Can the Apocalypse Five expose the truth the starship would kill to keep hidden? Or, will their bravery end in a public execution?

Goodreads / Amazon / Barnes & Noble / Kobo

REVIEW:

Wow what an amazing start to an imaginative series. As book one we are introduce to the world the Apocalypse five live in aboard a star ship thinking they are training to defend earth. The five spend all the time together, and ages starting at twelve or thirteen they are fighting battles of life and death.
Until they find out something they shouldn’t and everything they find is a lie and the apocalypse has already happened. I’m in awe at the imagination authors in this genre have. I thoroughly enjoyed this introduction to hopefully an absorbing series that I’m looking forward to.

So where is book two?

Audiobook Review Tour: FEVER RISING by K.M. RILEY, Narrated by Audra Cook! @thespirit_riley

Author: K.M. Riley

Narrator: Audra Cook

Length: 6 hours and 5 minutes

Publisher: Trifecta Publishing House

Released: Sep. 14, 2018

Genre: Science Fiction; Dystopian

“I don’t save, I kill. I don’t build, I break. I don’t run, I chase. And I won’t rest until a new society is built on the System’s ashes.” (Cassidy Havok)

Kaden Valens’ world is kill or be killed. Such is the life of a Challenger, the property of a Citizen. Fight or die. When Kaden is ordered to face his sole family member, his sister, Nix, he chooses a different battle – one against the Federacy that owns him.

Rebel Cassidy Havok is the Federacy’s worst nightmare. Her only goal is to bring down the government, doing whatever it takes to eradicate the slave-based society. When Kaden defies the Federacy publicly, she hopes to make an ally out of him, turning the tide in the resistance’s favor.

Cassidy helps Kaden escape the clutches of the Citizenry, and they flee to the Wilds, the world outside the Federacy’s reach. There they plan for the fight of a lifetime. Can they take on a nation, or is their cause a lost one?

K.M. Riley is not only a lover of stories, but she’s a game designer, artist, and fan of all things imaginative. If she’s not writing, she’s daydreaming or doodling about more worlds and characters that will make great tales. With a background in Creative Writing, she’s always busy creating new adventures, or taking part in them.

Fever Rising is an action-packed dystopian novel that had me on the edge of my seat! The main character, Kaden, is a lovable giant with a good heart and plenty of brawn. The opening scene had me overcome with anticipation and sets the tone for the rest of the book.
At first, I was confused, especially with the narration. I really had to concentrate so I could get the world building clear in my head.
Cassidy Havok rescues Kaden and together they set out to help the to bring the system down. In a world that owns you and can do what it wants with you. Make family members kill each other. Cassidy well, let’s just say she is the most resilient character I have come across.
Her fearless attitude is enough to inspire even the timidity person. Once I understood what was going on, I really enjoyed the adventure Cassidy pulls Kaden into.
The narration felt just like someone reading the story , which was why you had to concentrate so hard at the beginning.

I received this audiobook as part of my participation in a blog tour with Audiobookworm Promotions. The tour is being sponsored by K.M. Riley. The gifting of this audiobook did not affect my opinion of it.

Q&A with Author K.M. Riley

  • Was a possible audiobook recording something you were conscious of while writing?
    • To be honest, no. When I’m writing a book I focus on the story itself, having fun with what I’m envisioning. Characters are my favorite part to shape. Can they compel a reader to the world, the plot, to keep reading at all?
  • How did you select your narrator?
    • I had the auditioning narrators read one of the most compelling scenes from the book. To me, if they could capture that moment, that intensity between the characters, they could nail the rest of the narration.
  • How closely did you work with your narrator before and during the recording process? Did you give them any pronunciation tips or special insight into the characters?
    • For the most part, I trusted my narrator to run with the story after a brief breakdown of pronunciation and descriptions. What mattered most to me was her portrayal of the characters. I wanted them to not only sound different, but they needed to feel as impassioned as the words they’re speaking aloud to the listener.
  • How do you manage to avoid burn-out? What do you do to maintain your enthusiasm for writing?
    • Burnout is common everywhere. I work in video games, so I recognize when to stop and take a break. It’s the same with writing. Sometimes I’ll read a new series, draw a character I’m thinking of, or play excessive amounts of D&D. I let my imagination stay alive until get inspired again, keeping that enthusiasm alive in other forms.
  • Are you an audiobook listener? What about the audiobook format appeals to you?
    • Of course I’m a listener, that’s the best part about my commute. Audiobooks make it easy to do other things while listening to a story. Exercising, long drives, you name it. Whenever I can’t hold a book in my hands but crave a tale, that’s what they are there for.
  • What do you say to those who view listening to audiobooks as “cheating” or as inferior to “real reading”?
    • Nonsense. Some avid “readers” have actual impairments. Audiobooks are a fantastic way to help those with disabilities, sharing a story regardless of obstacles. For those without impairments, it’s just another way to cram more books in. Either way, getting through a book is an achievement to be praised, not condemned based on method.
  • In your opinion, what are the pros and cons of writing a stand-alone novel vs. writing a series?
    • Having done both, there’s something freeing about a stand-alone. For me, I had a single vision in mind, and all I wanted was to get that across, but not drag it out per se. Having a series means considering aspects beyond your first hook, a story that needs unfolding over more hurdles, thicker plots or complex character development. There’s no right or wrong, good or bad, it’s just a matter of what the author wants to write.
  • Have any of your characters ever appeared in your dreams?
    • All the time. They reenact scenes with more complexity than I could have remembered to write down when I woke up. Sometimes, and without giving too much away, some of the characters have made it a point to romance since there was only alluding in the book.
  • What’s next for you?
    • Currently, I’m working on a narrative project at Hangar 13 that I’m incredibly excited about. Unfortunately, I can’t talk about it. Hopefully one day it’s something I can share. That said, I’m not done writing books; the next one is just beginning to take root in my imagination.

Today we have the blog tour for the entire VAN WINKLE PROJECT Series by Karri Thompson. The series is an amazing YA Dystopian series you NEED to check out!

About MIRROR X (Book 1)

I was born more than a thousand years ago.

Put into a cryogenic tube at age seventeen, forgotten during a holocaust that decimated the world, I’ve finally been awakened to a more serene and peaceful future.

But things at the hospital are new and strange. And it’s starting to scare me.

Everyone is young. Everyone is banded and tracked. And everyone is keeping secrets.

The cute geneticist Michael Bennett might be the only good thing in this crazy new world where “life is precious” but no one seems free to live it. The problem is, I don’t think he’s being totally honest with me, either.

When I’m told only I can save the human race from extinction, it’s clear my freeze didn’t avoid a dreadful fate. It only delayed the horror…

About ASCENDANCY (Book 2)

I’ve been lied to, deceived, and manipulated—again. You’d think I’d be treated with dignity and respect. I’m the one who’s supposed to save humanity, right? I’m the one with the power to re-populate this dying world. But the clones want to control me, force me to give birth over and over again. And my daughters will face the same fate—unless I change it.

My awakening into this future should have been a chance for a new life, but it just promises a living death. With Michael on my side, though, maybe I can save us. He’s the only person I can trust.

I hear rumors of others… A secret society is growing. Tension is building.

A rebellion is imminent.

About RELEGATION (Book 3)

The end is near—and I’m fated to save humanity.

I’m feared, yet revered. The presidents are leery of me, but I’ve read the files. And I know the truth—at least, I think I do. And I’m the one who is going to tell the clones. They deserve to know.

Michael and I have been forced to fight, to kill. We’ll do anything to keep our daughters safe and free. But we can’t do it alone. There’s a rumor about a secret society eager for battle… and we’re going to find them. Help them end the government’s corruption.

It’s my duty, my calling as the first mother of the new world I want to create.

This started with me, and that’s where it’s going to end.

REVIEW:

I afraid you will have to excuse me, I just emerging from the future after reading the three books in the series one after another. First we have MirrorX where Cassie a seventeen year old was killed in a helicopter accident 2022. Cassie’s grandfather believed in cryogenics and placed Cassie in the company specialist S.T.A.S.I.S in Los Angeles.
So poor Cassie is awakened in 3022, we memories of just before the accident. Helpless in a bed with a body so wasted she cannot move. It doesn’t take long for Cassie’s real personality come peeking out, but she knows she can’t do anything until she is fit enough. This book finishes a story arc as they escape to Tasma to complete there project.

The Ascendancy
You just so know the perfect peaceful world is not all it seems ,and after being betrayed they get ready to implement the project in Tasma.
I not going to give to much away except to say I could see these books in a film format in my head as Michael and Cassie move through regions not knowing who to trust after being let down after Cassie finding out the truth of what happened to her.

In this brave new world a plague decimated the population 500 years before. One side effect left all women infertile, so for the last 500 years they have used cloning. Unfortunately the female clones are infertile. So all the populations left are all clones, and he who has the technology has the power.

This is a great trilogy as we watch the world trying to change and to be free. Let me say I enjoyed this immensely and I still firmly trapped in the 3020s. I hope these come in an Audio format, and these are written for YA market so we have plenty action, underhanded behavior. The only unpleasant things that happen is what is in context to the story. This old bird thoroughly enjoyed my trip to the future.

EVERYTHING UNDER THE SUN BY JESSICA REDMERSKI

Genres: Adult, Dystopian, Post-Apocalyptic, Romance, Suspense

Publication date: August 28th 2017

SYNOPSIS:

Thais Fenwick was eleven-years-old when civilization fell, devastated by a virus that killed off the majority of the world’s population. For seven years, Thais and her family lived in a community of survivors deep in the heart of the Appalachian Mountains. But when her town is attacked by raiders, she and her blind sister are taken away to the East-Central Territory where she is destined to live the cruel and unjust kind of life her late mother warned her about.

Atticus Hunt is a troubled soldier in Lexington City who has spent the past seven years trying to conform to the vicious nature of men in a post-apocalyptic society. He knows that in order to survive, he must abandon his morals and his conscience and become like those he is surrounded by. But when he meets Thais, morals and conscience win out over conformity, and he risks his rank and his life to help her. They escape the city and set out together on a long and perilous journey to find safety in Shreveport, Louisiana.

Struggling to survive in a world without electricity, food, shelter, and clean water, Atticus and Thais shed their fear of growing too close, and they fall hopelessly in love. But can love survive in such dark times, or is it fated to die with them?

Goodreads / Amazon / Barnes & Noble

REVIEW:

The first thing I have to say before I start writing my review. I am waiting for me to stop my tears even though the book it finished on promising note.
This is a long but addictive read about what happens after the crash of civilisation. When we meet Thais its seven years after the fall, she lives with her father and her sister Sosie. They appear to be surviving until her father is killed and the sisters are captured and sent to Lexington where civilisation has devolved to an alarming degree.
It’s in Lexington is where she meets Atticus and they escape and start their journey to Shreveport where it’s a good and fair place to live. Lexington was worse than the old west.
The things made this such a good book is how realistic everything felt and unfortunately it rang too true.
How far would you go to survive and how it changes you on the inside if you let it. Atticus struggled everyday with what he had to do, and it was Thais that kept him going. Sometimes people are made stronger and learn to survive.
This is Atticus and Thais journey to civilisation, and a long and arduous journey, where meet a lot of different people some good and some bad. It was how they both changed into good and strong people who can survive in this new world. I loved this book every page of it. Be prepared for your emotions be very involved and get tissues ready.
