REVIEW:

I do like read a good paranormal romance, and this is a good paranormal romance. I absolutely love dragons. This is book one in a new series, but can be read as a standalone. Now I got that out of the way, and we are introduced to Raven who was suffering from brain cancer and the end was near and she wanted to die she had enough.

When a man visit who she thinks is death, but instead offers her life.
Gabriel is suffering from a curse and only has so long before he is turned to stone and needs help. So Raven and Gabriel have to work together to find a way to break the curse.
This has all Love, Hot Sex, magic, voodoo black magic all mixed together creates an absorbing new series and great paranormal romance. The story is told from dual points of view. I have also discovered a new author which is a win win for me.

REVIEW:

The first I have to say is you must read The Legacy first as this carries on from that book. I read the Legacy when it came out, and I ‘ve been waiting for Bloodties forever. When Alexis inherited a big old house from her uncle Woodie she discovers there is a lot more to it. Alexis is an empath and discover Josh and Tucker can damper the feelings when things get bad.
In this book Alexis finds out more about her powers and how to deal with the fact the house is full of ghosts as wells as the house itself talks to her and some the knights.
In this book its nonstop action all centered around the families and the house we find out so much more and then nothing the end and now I have to wait for the next book to find out more. This kept me gripped through all the pages, that meant it felt like minutes instead hours when reading.

After being raised by the meanest fairies in the history of ever, Bryar Rose is now free to live her own life. For the first time, she’s attending West Lake Prep, a regular high school. Well, mostly regular. Some students are actually hidden members of the Magicorum. In other words, they’re really wizards, fairies, or shifters. Bry doesn’t mind, though. She’s thrilled to enjoy all the new experiences of being around normal kids her age, from locker pranks to lunchtime mystery meat. Everything is going along great, except for one thing.

Bry’s dreams about the pyramids of Egypt have gotten darker and more sinister. Every night, she sees her new man Knox and her best friend Elle in danger.

“Exciting and well-conceived” – Kirkus

With no other choice, Bry plans to leave school to explore the pyramids on her own. But her new man Knox discovers the scheme and is having none of it. He wants to stay by her side, no matter what. REVIEW:

Wow what a book, Christina Bauer has created another series which has become a must buy for me. This book blew me a away with all our heroes in it, but this was definitely Bryer Rose and Knox’s story. One I never saw coming, I thought this would be centred on her trek into schooling west Lake Prep, but that was a small part.
This book is centred around the Autumn equinox and tracking down the fountain of magic to strengthen the magic, as it is in danger of dying out. This is an action packed adventured and Bryer learning to let herself love and accept love from Knox. I not going to tell you anymore about this book except to say  I was blown away and this series get better with every book. Christine Bauer has such an incredible imagination that has me addicted to her storytelling.

About MIDNIGHT FLIGHT

Mistrust.
It was all Adara did.
Fear.
It was all she ever knew.

Adara Kerslake has kept her identity a secret from the Cynn Cruors for as long as she can remember. When Cynn Cruor warrior, Luke Griffiths, comes hurtling into her life, she flounders. Afraid of dealing with the Cynn Cruors and the man who captured her heart, she leaves, burning bridges in the process. Until a loved one forces her to rebuild those links that brings her back into the world she fought so hard to escape from.
And to the warrior whose passion haunts her every sleeping and waking moment.
Luke goes into a spiral after Adara leaves and it is only by the strength and love of his Cynn Cruor brethren and their women that keeps him from tripping into insanity. To forget her, he prepares to leave for the Ancients’ Faesten in Anglesey on a mission that can lead to his death and the banishment of the Manchester Cynn Cruors if he isn’t careful. When Adara returns, the last thing Luke wants is to get involved again. But he can’t stay away. What’s more, someone in the Ancients’ Faesten in Anglesey knows who she is and is out to get her.
Two missions merge to one. A desire to know the truth becomes entangled with the desire that never waned between Adara and Luke.
Until a spectre from Adara’s past threatens them both…and brings in a new enemy for the Cynn Cruors.

MIDNIGHT'S FIGHT TEASER

REVIEW:

It has been a while since there has been a new Cynn Cruor novel and I was lucky enough to be able to get a chance to read a new book from one of my go to series before it was released. This is the eighth book in this fascinating paranormal series.
For those of you who haven’t read the series you will need to start with Rapture at Midnight or you will be very confused. This be read as a standalone, but to get the full benefit it is best for the books to be read in order.
The Cynn Cruors are an immortal race created originally with werewolf and vampire genetics. They were created to live quietly among humans and to keep them safe. In most large cities around the world they have a presence there to keep humanity save.
This is story of Luke Griffiths and Adara Kerslake, and what a story. This is an action packed with plenty of drama and shocks for the ancients as well as the rest of the Cynn Cruors. Luke and Adara are mates even if the two of them have many misunderstandings, but when the chips are down they are there for each other. This is a fantastic read with so much going on it will leave you shaking your head. At least Luke and Adara have a happy ending and are accepting each other wholeheartedly. If you love a good paranormal series, why not start with Rapture at Midnight which happens to FREE at the moment.

As the waves pull her under, Stella knows that she is going to die. Instead, an unusual current drags her deep into the underwater canyons of the Atlantic Ocean. Powerless against the raging waters, she is suddenly sucked into a ventilated cave. One by one, Jill and her family also emerge in the sunken cavern. With only a faulty diving flashlight to keep oblivion at bay, Stella and her best friend’s brother Colin search the cave in hope of finding a way back to the surface. What they discover, however, is that they are not alone. There are other survivors in this subterranean grotto – survivors spanning decades of maritime disasters.

Will this discovery prove salvation, or have they all been condemned to the same fate? A grim finale at the bottom of the sea? On an alliance forged by friendship and attraction, Stella and Colin battle to escape the danger that lies beneath.

Narrator Bio

I studied theatre in college, and even participated in storytelling festivals when I was growing up. I’m a practicing attorney, and love to participate in ACX projects to keep my creative side happy and fulfilled. I can perform fiction and non-fiction, in neutral-American or Southern-American accents.

I live in North Carolina with my husband, toddler, and pound puppy. I have a soft spot for romance and I love a good laugh!

Great story told in a plausible way.
Stella goes sailing with her best friend and her family, a sail which has happened so many times over the years. Unfortunately they encounter  a strange weather condition, and they capsize and the next thing Stella knows is she comes up into a strange pool of water in a cave.
Beneath is a frightening tale of what happens to a family that is lost at sea, and instead of dying they end up in an underwater cavern. Where nothing is as it seems. They meet people from different eras and you don’t seem to have aged very much.
What they discover when Colin and Stella go investigating is both frightening and encouraging. They have to try to merge into the community to stay alive.
This was such a gripping and eerie story, and everything seemed so real. A great spooky read, and I loved it. I can’t recommend this enough as everything seemed so real, I know I was there.

I received this audiobook as part of my participation in a blog tour with Audiobookworm Promotions. The tour is being sponsored by Maureen A. Miller. The gifting of this audiobook did not affect my opinion of it.

Q&A with Author Maureen A. Miller

  • Was a possible audiobook recording something you were conscious of while writing?
    • No. If I went into thinking about an audiobook I might have written something resembling a screenplay versus a novel. But a strong narrator has the magic to take any tale and captivate the reader’s ears.
  • How did you select your narrator?
    • I had several auditions, most with seasoned narrators. Yet, listening through the auditions one voice stood out. Brandy Skelly. The main character, Stella, is young and is thrown into a surreal and dangerous situation. Brandy Skelly delivered the drama and incredulity in that initial audition, captivating me.
  • How closely did you work with your narrator before and during the recording process? Did you give them any pronunciation tips or special insight into the characters?
    • In this whole big country of ours, what are the odds of learning that your narrator lives in the next town? We discussed pronunciations and dialect. For the most part, all characters were from the New York/New Jersey area. Brandy nailed the Long Island accent!
  • Were there any real life inspirations behind your writing?
    • My characters always borrow upon people from my past, as remote as the connection my be. Stella Gullaksen, the main character was named after a Swedish girl I went to middle school with.
  • How do you manage to avoid burn-out? What do you do to maintain your enthusiasm for writing?
    • I’m an early morning writer. I can conquer the universe between 6am and 10am. After that my conquests taper off, until sometime around 9pm I am reduced to structured sentences that sound like “Run Spot run.”
  • Are you an audiobook listener? What about the audiobook format appeals to you?
    • Audiobooks are the only way I can manage a long drive. If I have to travel far for a book signing or conference, I devour audiobooks along the way. And if the book is not finished by the time I get there, I will circle around a block ten or twenty times until it is complete!
  • Is there a particular part of this story that you feel is more resonating in the audiobook performance than in the book format?
    • The opening sequence. Brandy captures the desperation of the scene perfectly.
  • What do you say to those who view listening to audiobooks as “cheating” or as inferior to “real reading”?
    • When I was a kid our local radio station used to read a scary story every Wednesday night long after my bedtime. I would sneak the radio under my covers and stick the speaker up against my ear so that my parents wouldn’t hear. I loved hearing those Wednesday night stories! Was that cheating, or was I just enjoying being told a tale?
  • How did you celebrate after finishing this novel?
    • I started the sequel! Although this book has a certain closure, there is room for more to be told.
  • In your opinion, what are the pros and cons of writing a stand-alone novel vs. writing a series?
    • With a standalone you can pour your heart and soul into one story and not have to worry about leaving anything leftover for the next. There is as much satisfaction for the author to tie up strings as there is for the reader. However, a series lets an author hold on to characters that are near and dear to her heart.

The Dark Lands

(Angelbound Origins #5)
Published by: Monster House Books
Publication date: September 1st 2018
Genres: Fantasy, Paranormal, Young Adult

“This YA paranormal fantasy series is cute, compulsively readable and above all fun.” – The Nocturnal Library Blog

Nineteen-year-old Myla Lewis is loving life–she’s now a wife, mother, and Queen of the Thrax. Oh yeah, and being a super-powerful demigoddess who moves souls into Heaven or Hell doesn’t suck, either. In fact, everything is pretty much awesome. Until something craptastic happens.

Her honorary older brother Walker enters the Dark Lands, home to the rule-loving ghouls, and vanishes without a trace.

Now it’s up to Myla to solve the mystery of Walker’s disappearance. Of course, Myla likes interacting with ghouls about as much as elective dental surgery. To make matters harder, everyone thinks that Walker is simply taking a well-deserved vacation. But Myla and her Angelbound love, Lincoln, both suspect that the ghoul Oligarchy took Walker in order to somehow release Lucifer, the ex-King of the Angels and an all around nut job who really needs to stay locked up.

Long story short, Myla and Lincoln have just two days to rescue their good friend and stop Lucifer from taking over the after-realms. Even for them, this may be a too-tall order, especially when Myla’s own father allows his past friendship with Lucifer to threaten Walker’s future.

“I loved jumping back into the world of Angelbound.” – Mean Who You Are Blog

Perfect for readers who love angels, devils, and demons but want a fresh take on their related fairy tales, myths, and legends. This series combines fierce females, paranormal romance and urban/contemporary fantasy. Enjoy!!

REVIEW:

Well another great adventure from Christina Bauer with my favourite quasi demon Myla and her great team of supporters. This time it’s Walker that needs help, he keeps disappearing and when shows up he has been tortured. When appearing on Good Morning Purgatory Myla and Lincoln are blindsided when an exposé tells of a super villain called the viper has stolen some magical gauntlets that belonged to Lucifer.
This time someone wants to let Lucifer out of his prison, which while mean carnage through the realms. So with great courage and plenty of sass Myla and Lincoln to the rescue. This is up to the usual standard you expect when reading this humorous and exciting series. We see a lot more of Maxon with Xavier, as the ancient Archangel discovers the art to babysitting. Just so cute, as just like anybody would need your parents help when you have to risk your life to save the world.

Audiobook Review Tour: SEMESTER ABOARD ( More Than Magic #1 ) by ELIZABETH KIRKE, Narrator by Starla Huchton @more_than_magic

Author: Elizabeth Kirke

Narrator: Starla Huchton

Length: 14 hours and 34 minutes

Publisher: Elizabeth Kirke

Released: July 4, 2018

Genre: Young Adult; Fantasy

Jen Maddox is a few days into her summer study-abroad program and has loved every moment on her cruise ship turned college campus. Everyone tells her the experience will change her life, but none of them realize just how right they really are.

One night, Jen goes out on deck and encounters five other students. She knows Charlie from one of her classes, and he’s a funny, friendly, regular guy. Picture-perfect Dani and his gorgeous wife, Mariana, live right down the hall from Jen, and she has seen TS, who’s built like a truck, around the ship, and recognizes the cute but quiet Thomas as well.

Then Jen sees something that isn’t humanly possible. Jen would have thought that it was all a dream if not for the fact that Charlie, Dani, Mariana, TS, and Thomas are making every effort to cover it up. Suddenly, the five of them are everything but normal, and Jen is determined to figure out what they’re hiding.

When she does, her life really does change. Jen expected to spend her summer studying the cultures of Latin America; she never dreamed she’d learn about a magical culture instead.

But Jen’s childhood fantasy come true is about to turn into a nightmare; there’s something on the ship. Something dangerous. Suddenly, everyone on board is threatened by a creature that Jen never even believed existed. Jen and her new friends might be the only people who can stop it!

Now Jen has to learn everything she can about her new world before it kills her. And her friends. And maybe everyone on the entire ship.

Elizabeth Kirke lives with her husband, two young sons, a hound-mix, and two turtles. She wanted to be an author before she even knew what an author was. She used to say that she wanted to be an artist, but that was only because she was too young to write and had to tell stories with pictures instead. She hasn’t stopped writing since she learned how. It wasn’t long before she dreamed of becoming an author and couldn’t be happier now that that dream is a reality.

If she isn’t writing, she’s probably doing something involving books, baking, gardening, or yarn.

Like most slightly-nosy, avid readers, Elizabeth can’t resist trying to catch a peek at books she sees people reading when out in public to see if she can figure out what it is. While doing just that one day, she realized that it would probably be the coolest-thing-ever if she caught a complete stranger reading one of her books. That’s her new dream.

Jennifer is having the time of her life spending a whole Semester aboard a ship sailing down the South American Coastline stopping for trips and excursion as well as taking classes to keep up with their syllabus.
One night needing fresh air Jennifer witnesses something that shouldn’t be possible. To keep Jennifer from saying anything that tell her all will be explained at the next port. So for next couple of days she followed and becomes friendly with the most fascinating group on the boat.
No one is more surprised than Jen to find she is a witch. So Thomas starts training her, Jen is over the moon. Unfortunately as this is a first in a series there is a lot of magic world building. This is a fun paranormal adventure on board ship with great locations. The narration was excellent with all the voices that had to be done. A great start to a new series, and can’t wait to see how Jennifer progresses with her magic.

I received this audiobook as part of my participation in a blog tour with Audiobookworm Promotions. The tour is being sponsored by Elizabeth Kirke. The gifting of this audiobook did not affect my opinion of it.

  • Was a possible audiobook recording something you were conscious of while writing?
    • Never in a million years. When I originally wrote the book I was actually posting it, chapter by chapter, in the Original Works section of a fanfiction website! Back then, ebooks were hardly even a thing. Merely publishing Semester Aboard was a pipe dream and having an audiobook never even crossed my mind. I hardly even expected to be where I am now, with three (plus a short story collection) books in the series and three more on the way. Not to mention having Semester Aboard win an award for Best YA Paranormal!
  • How did you select your narrator?
    • Sheer luck! Starla and I were already Facebook friends thanks to the networking power of the author world. We actually sort-of worked together before, when she made a wand for me. (Actually, she made the top half of a wand to fit onto the bottom half of my existing one. The top broke off and I buried it with my beloved cat, but hated to have a broken wand just sitting around.) Anyway, I posted on Facebook asking my friends if they know any narrators and briefly described what I was looking for. Starla replied and sent a link to books she had already done. I knew she was the perfect fit right away, and the rest is history!
  • How closely did you work with your narrator before and during the recording process?
    • Did you give them any pronunciation tips or special insight into the characters?
I gave Starla an absurdly detailed document with pronunciation, bios, and even descriptions and pictures. It was probably above and beyond what she needed, but since she brought it to life, it was worth it! We chatted back and forth a lot for the first couple of chapters, but after she had the characters down I just let her do her thing!
  • Were there any real life inspirations behind your writing?
    • Big yes! I was part of the Semester at Sea program back in college. I spent a summer on a cruise ship, operated (at the time) by the University of Virginia. I took college courses with UVA and visiting professors, while touring Latin America on the ship. I strongly encourage college students to do it! That experience inspired this book, in which the main character is a student in the same program. As she navigates magic and vampires, her voyage takes her to the same ports that I visited. While a lot more magic is thrown in, the characters do have many of the same experiences in different countries and on the ship that I did.
  • In your opinion, what are the pros and cons of writing a stand-alone novel vs. writing a series?
    • Interesting question. I think each pro and con play off each other. A con of plotting a series is that you need to plot out multiple books, and come up with character development and arcs that span more than one book. So, the pro of a stand-alone is that you can wrap it all up with a bow. However, it could also reverse! A con of a stand-alone is that you have to keep everything succinct enough to be contained in one book, but exciting enough to keep readers interested. Likewise, a pro of a series is that you can get really in-depth and intricate, and you have room to grow. I think it all depends on your strengths and weaknesses as a writer.
  • Is there a particular part of this story that you feel is more resonating in the audiobook performance than in the book format?
    • I think it all benefits from Starla’s amazing performance. That said, I’ve gotten some negative feedback in the past regarding how slow some of the portions in the ports go. As you just read, they were based on my real experiences, so I think I got a bit too wordy and nostalgic as I describe them. But, Starla brings them to life and you really feel the excitement through the main character’s eyes as she reads. I think it really picks up the dragging parts. She also adds a wonderful sense of urgency to the fight scenes!
  • If you had the power to time travel, would you use it? If yes, when and where would you go?
    • I would head straight to 1797 and visit George Washington. I worked for several years as a historical interpreter on his estate and would love to pop in and see it in its prime. Not to mention catch some time alone with the General to talk to him.
  • What do you say to those who view listening to audiobooks as “cheating” or as inferior to “real reading”?
    • People say that!? Ugh, people will complain about anything for the sake of taking enjoyment away from someone else. 100% disagree. First, there are numerous medical reasons to listen to audiobooks, and that alone should be worth something. Vision impairment, arthritis, dyslexia…The list goes on. Heck, even a nasty migraine that makes opening your eyes torture, but you can’t fall asleep. And who doesn’t want to read a book while stuck in traffic? Why not listen? And, most importantly: people enjoy them. That should be enough. We should be rallying against people who want to censor or limit access to books, not people making them more accessible.
  • What’s next for you?
    • Phew! The very next is Wrought-Iron Roses, the 2nd book in my paranormal romance series, The Curse Collectors. The first book opens with three sisters who inherit their aunt’s antique shop. Upon arrival, they discover that she was a rune-caster, and was in charge of breaking the curses cast upon all of the antiques in her shop. One of the sisters gets cursed, so they have to learn how to cast runes to save her.
After that, I’m working on the fourth (fifth if you count Danio’s Prelude) book in the More than Magic series! I’m also hoping to get the audio for the next one lined up.
Lastly, I’m working on the outline for a brand new series! This one is a paranormal cozy mystery series. I’m quite looking forward to writing it.

Jennifer Maddox

  • Height: 5’ 4” and slim
  • Eyes: Blue
  • Hair: Brown
  • Favorite Food: Pizza
  • Favorite Movie: Twilight
  • Birthday: June 17
  • Born: Oregon
  • Occupation: College student

In this book: Jen thinks the only “magical” thing about her summer on a cruise will be the cruise itself, little does she know, some of her new friends are quite a bit more magical. In fact, they aren’t even human. Learning about magic seems like a dream to Jen, but it quickly turns into a nightmare; something is on the ship with them. Something dangerous. Now, the lives of Jen, her new friends, and everyone on the entire ship are threatened by a creature Jen never even believed existed. And it’s up to Jen to stop it.

Thomas Clark

  • Height: 5’ 8” and borderline too thin
  • Eyes: Green
  • Hair: Brown
  • Favorite Food: Teppanyaki
  • Favorite Movie: Journey to the Center of the Earth (the original)
  • Birthday: October 8
  • Born: New York
  • Occupation: Special Agent with the Magical Enforcement and Secrecy (MES) agency

In this book: Taking time off for college is encouraged by MES, although Thomas and his friends are pushing the limits by signing up for a college cruise. Nevertheless, he’s ready for a fun summer of cruising and a three-month break from his job as the Resident Magic Coordinator with MES. In spite of all of his experience welcoming magical beings to town, he’s never seen anything like Jen. He’s never felt this way about anyone either. But, when a dangerous magic sneaks aboard the ship, Thomas knows it’s his duty as a Special Agent to stop it, and the lives of everyone on the ship may depend on what he can, or can’t, do.

Char Smith

  • Height: 5’ 6” and stocky
  • Eyes: Red
  • Hair: Red, orange, and yellow
  • Favorite Food: Anything spicy
  • Favorite Movie: The Shop Around the Corner
  • Birthday: June 7 (shared with twin sister, Callie)
  • Born: Arizona
  • Occupation: MES Agent, Magic-Owned Business Liaison Department

In this book: Charlie is less than thrilled to spend a summer surrounded by water; he’s out of his element, literally. But, as long as the ship doesn’t sink, he supposes he can give it a whirl. With the power of fire at his beck and call, he makes a powerful ally for Jen and the others. But, if he loses control, he could sink the very ship they’re trying to save…

Tethys Conall

  • Height: 6’3” and broad
  • Eyes: Dark brown
  • Hair: brown
  • Favorite Food: Meat
  • Favorite Movie: The Shining
  • Birthday: February 10 (shared with four siblings)
  • Born: Ireland
  • Occupation: MES Senior Field Agent

In this book: The only downsides to spending the summer on a ship, as far as TS is concerned, are his seasickness and monthly problem. A potion for the seasickness is easy enough. As for his other issue… well, he’ll just have to spend full moons in his cabin. Of course, it’s also annoying to speak seven languages and find yourself in a country that doesn’t speak any of them. For a Senior Field Agent, thinking on his toes is exactly what TS excels at. Handling a rogue magic on board should be a piece of cake. Of course, he’s also used to having back-up, weapons, and a wider field to work in.

Danio Pelagos

  • Height: 6’ 4” and lithe
  • Eyes: Blue
  • Hair: Blue
  • Favorite Food: His mother’s cooking,  not that he’d admit it
  • Favorite Movie: The cheesier the better
  • Birthday: November 14
  • Born: Off the coast of Greece
  • Occupation: MES Special Agent, Secrecy Breach Cover-Ups

In this book: Prank-loving Dani was, naturally, the mastermind behind pulling some MES strings to get an all expenses paid vacation. The icing on the cake is being on a ship. Had he known the danger lurking, however, he would’ve taken a rain check. Dani’s no stranger to threats on his life, but he prefers to face them without the people he loves along for the ride.

Mariana Bar

  • Height: 5’ 10” or 7’2”
  • Eyes: Blue
  • Hair: Blonde or Green
  • Favorite Food: Fish
  • Favorite Movie: The Little Mermaid
  • Birthday: April 2
  • Born: Maine
  • Occupation: MES Intern

In this book: Mariana is eager to go along on a cruise with her friends, even if her bestie couldn’t make it. She’s ready for sun, sand, and (mostly) the depths of the ocean. There’s plenty of exploring to do with Dani by her side. But take her out of the water, and she’s not nearly experienced enough to take on the creature hunting them. Mariana feels more like a liability than a future MES agent. Nevertheless, she’s ready to do whatever it takes to defend herself and her friends.

Blog Tour + Review: STORM OF GODS ( An Areios Brothers Novel ) by AMY BRAUN @amybraunauthor @XpressoReads

Storm of the Gods
Amy Braun
(An Areios Brothers Novel)
Publication date: August 27th 2018
Genres: Adult, Urban Fantasy

The first in a brand new urban fantasy series where gods roam and mortals fight, STORM OF THE GODS follows two brothers who are caught in a conspiracy revolving around ancient artifacts, and find themselves siding with their supposed enemies rather than the Olympian who demands their loyalty…

Thirty years ago, the gods of Greek legend returned to the world. Their return restored their powers, which had been spent in a cataclysmic battle with the Titans. With the ancient deities imprisoned in Tartarus, the Olympians now reside in Néo Vasíleio, formerly known as California.

Twenty-four-year-old Derek Aerios is a war scion, a descendent of Ares, the God of War. He and his brother, eighteen-year-old Liam, capture mythological creatures and rogue scions as part of Ares’s elite military force. As he struggles to cope with his violent powers and the scars of a traumatic childhood, Derek tries to keep the two vows he has made: protect his brother, and never kill a human again.

But when Ares forces him to hunt and kill four rogue scions under Athena’s control—by threatening Liam’s life—Derek chooses to go after the scions in order to save his brother and keep his promise to himself.

Yet the closer Derek gets to the scions, the more he realizes that his orders are part of a deeper conspiracy that put him at odds with his mission and his conscience. Athena may not be the enemy, a traitor could be in their midst, and the Titans could be closer to freedom than ever before.

REVIEW:

This is an action packed start to a new urban fantasy Series. I will say quickly this an adult series, as some of the situations and violence is quite extreme, but totally in proportion when dealing The Olympians, especially Ares who happen to be Derek and Liam’s boss. As they have his diluted bloodline It entitles him to treat them worse them slaves.
I loved the brothers Derek and Liam and how they stick together. Derek is very protective of those he cares about. This is a fascinating read Amy Braun gives you a handy prefix to go through their elements. So if your mythology is a big rusty this is a good reminder. As we meet Scions from different gods it’s a helpful reminder.
As this is book one there is the world building, but don’t worry it still has plenty of  action. I enjoyed reading this a lot and devoured in one go. Now I’m waiting for book two.

Lord Aldric Darragon rules over his land with an iron fist until one day the only woman who is genetically compatible with him agrees to his offer of mating. As his all-consuming passion for Endora explodes, an ancient threat looms heavy over humans and Delradons alike. With the lives of everyone he cares about hanging in the balance, Aldric has to fight the demons of his past if he wants to defeat the enemies of the present.

Publisher’s Note: This gripping sci-fi alien romance has it all: dragons, passion and tension. It also contains explicit themes and is intended for adults only.

REVIEW:

I so love getting involved in a series from the beginning. So I jumped at the chance to review a new paranormal sci- fi with hot sex thrown in. It’s a win win for me!
This series is based on earth, which is ruled by an alien race that have a problem with fertility, and only women with certain genetic match are chosen. Endora has always known she was a match but never consider the idea.
Unfortunately Tallie, Endora’s daughter has leukaemia and is fading fast. The only thing that can save her is the Alien technology, and that costs money she doesn’t have.So Endora does the unthinkable and leaves her daughter with her grandmother and goes to report in.
High Lord  Aldric Darragon rules what was America and one of the strongest of lords. What Endora doesn’t know is that Aldric had seen her years before when she was with Wilmer Tallie’s father. Aldric was enchanted, but since then he had closed his heart down.
I really enjoyed this book with action all the way. Great romance, lots of action, cute kids and nasty bad guy , all mixed together gives my an action packed adventure with great world building so we have a base for book two. I loved this book and read it in one go, So for me this series is going on my must buy list.
I’m looking forward to book two as I loved the dragons.

About Mary

Mary grew up in the quiet peace of a small rural village in the heart of Quebec, Canada.

She spent her childhood chasing butterflies and catching frogs, playing in the mud and generally being as unladylike as she could. Her love of science led her to complete a mechanical engineering degree at the Ecole Polytechnique of Montreal, where she met the love of her life.

Years later, as she enjoyed the role of full time mom to her two wonderful children, she decided to pursue her dream of becoming a writer.

She now write as much as her busy schedule allows to bring to life her inner world, filled with exotic planets, mysterious creatures and off course, hot, alpha heroes and the women who melt their hearts.

When she’s not writing, she can be found in the garden, walking her dogs or playing with fire in her kitchen as a part time hit-or-miss chef.

She loves to hear from her readers, so don’t be shy and drop her a line!

Audiobook Blog Tour + Review: DEAD OF NIGHT, 6 Tales of the Supernatural and the Macabre by WILLIAM TODD, Narrated by BEN WERLING!

Author: William Todd

Narrator: Ben Werling

Length: 4 hours

Publisher: William Todd

Released: May 18, 2018

Genre: Horror

Dead of Night is a compilation of turn-of-the-century-era horror stories with a Victorian flair and traditional horror story plots with unexpected endings. If you like ghosts and ghouls and demons and werewolves, these stories are for you.

I have been writing online since the early 2000’s, primarily writing horror stories in the style of Poe and Lovecraft. I was the 2nd most popular author on the website storiesbyemail.com for two years before moving on. I had my first book, a Victorian era horror compilation called Bumps in the Night, published by Mystic Moon Press just a week before they closed their website and never saw my hard work pay off. Afterwards I took publishing into my own hands, became an Indie author and haven’t looked back. My first self-published book was Dead of Night, another compilation of Victorian horror stories, published September 2016 by Createspace and on Kindle by KDP. After its publication I left my comfort zone for mystery and wrote a short story about Sherlock Holmes in the Conan Doyle style. I loved it so much I then did a longer story A Reflection of Evil, both published in 2017 through Createspace and KDP. I have just release Beyond the Gossamer Veil, another compilation of both Victorian and modern supernatural/horror stories and am in the beginning stages of my third Sherlock Holmes installment.

Ben is an award winning actor and voice over professional, who has performed all across the United States. From Shakespeare to Neil Simon, he has displayed a versatility and diversity in the characters and dialects he has portrayed. Ben received the Joseph Jefferson Award for Leading Actor as abusive talk show host Barry Champlain in Eric Bogosian’s TALK RADIO, and was nominated for Best Supporting Actor as Prosecutor Villeforte in Alexander Dumas’ THE COUNT OF MONTE CRISTO, also in Chicago. He has worked with an extensive list of theaters in Chicago over the last three decades: Steppenwolf, Bailiwick, Famous Door, Next, A Red Orchid, Raven Theater, First Folio, Writer’s Theater, Buffalo Theater Ensemble, as well as Utah Shakespeare Festival, Illinois Shakespeare Festival, Indiana Repertory, Madison Repertory, and Allenberry Playhouse in Boiling Springs, Pennsylvania. He is an Ensemble member of Shattered Globe Theater in Chicago. For almost a decade he was the voice of the Adler Planetarium, hosting live shows and pointing out the stars, planets and constellations on the big dome. Ben has an eponymous weekly vlog on YouTube, that he films, produces, edits and narrates. He lives in Chicago with his wife Amy, two dogs and three cats.

  • Tell us about the process of turning your book into an audiobook.
    • It was a fun process. This is the third book that I have turned into an audiobook. This one was a bit more daunting because it’s a compilation of 6 horror stories, so the narrator had to wear many more hats on this one than with my previous books. The settings are varied and the characters even more so. I go from American to British to Irish. From man to monster to little girl with Down Syndrome. But my narrator Ben Werling was up to the task.
  • Was a possible audiobook recording something you were conscious of while writing?
    • Not at first, no. And this book certainly not. Most of these stories I wrote before audiobooks took off and certainly well before I thought I could get my books on audiobook. My most recent stories, however, I am rather cognizant of how I write, if only a little, thinking, “how would this sound on audiobook?”
  • How did you select your narrator?
    • Honestly, Ben Werling is my Sherlock Holmes and Watson story narrator. He’s been a great narrator with a wide range of styles and voices which is needed for the types of stories I write–late Victorian/ gothic horror. His voice is perfect for what I write so I have Ben do all my books.
  • How closely did you work with your narrator before and during the recording process? Did you give them any pronunciation tips or special insight into the characters?
    • Did you give them any pronunciation tips or special insight into the characters? Answer: I do a little bit for anything that needs to be specific–a specific character’s voice or a funky word I use. Other than that I let Ben’s creativity do the rest.
  • Were there any real life inspirations behind your writing?
    • Bumps in the Night was a story with my daughter in mind. She was born with Down Syndrome, and I thought it would be neat to tell a story through her eyes.
  • How do you manage to avoid burn-out? What do you do to maintain your enthusiasm for writing?
    • I lead a pretty active life with my family, two teens–one gearing up for college and the other in integrated track (for special needs kids), and a full time job that has me travelling 80 miles a day in commute. You would think I’d get burned out quickly trying to fit writing in between all that but I really don’t. At least it hasn’t happened yet. I’m not sure where I find my writing time but I do find it. I manage one or two books a year and that seems to be my sweet spot. Anything more than that then, yeah, I’d probably burn out rather quickly.
  • Are you an audiobook listener? What about the audiobook format appeals to you?
    • I have only recently come into audiobooks but I love it. My son makes fun of me because I have come kicking and screaming into the technology age (I have only owned a smartphone for about 5 years). As an old man of 50 I had heard of audiobooks but never really gave it much thought. Since becoming a writer and wanting to get my stories out in as many formats as possible I finally gave audiobooks a try and loved it. In today’s hustle world where there’s no time for anything, you can listen to an audiobook just about anywhere. You can’t say that for a paperback.
  • Is there a particular part of this story that you feel is more resonating in the audiobook performance than in the book format?
    • I think with the way Ben does his audio he does sound effects in the background that harkens back to radio shows of old. I think the type of horror story I write lends itself very well to audiobook with those little sound effects giving you a little something different that you won’t get in book format. I think that helps heighten the experience of listening to a story rather than reading it.
  • What do you say to those who view listening to audiobooks as “cheating” or as inferior to “real reading”?
    • In today’s hustle and bustle world we sometimes don’t have the time to “sit and read” a book. But hey, we all need our escape to other worlds, other times, other places, other people, and audiobook gives you that escape. You are able to listen while driving, exercising, or being otherwise predisposed where reading a book would be an impossibility. That will always be the ace in the hole for audiobooks.
  • What’s next for you?
    • I just finished my third Sherlock Holmes story, Murder in Keswick. I’ll market it over the summer then hit the keyboard again. I don’t have anything in the works at the moment, but inspiration is only one nightmare away!

This was an interesting collection of gothic horror stories. William Todd sets the scene beautifully with each one. This reminded me of a Victorian men’s club on Halloween where each tell a tale of horror riddled supernatural entities. This is a collection of six stories, they are not long, but the scene is set so well you are there with each of the poor souls in danger.
This audiobook is only 4 hours long, and Ben Werling’s narration is superb, with the different voices executed so well. It was like listening to a cast of many, and my attention never wavered all through the six stories. This is one to keep for Halloween so you can share with your friends.
